Golwar replied on February 22, 2008 21:50 to the idea "Would it be beneficial to be able to have the ability to set automatic "buy and sell" orders?" in Hubdub:
This was such a ( sorry ) fucking perfect example today, about what is so totally wrong with open indices questions. We had 3 DJ questions, 2 with multiple outcomes which mostly hit 0% and thatfor were real cheap investments, with a huge benefit as the DJ decided to make a long huge jump at the finish. So everyone went along from slot to slot, like a brainless herd pushed around by some simple digits.
I also had some bucks in each of those 0% slots, I sold the others on their high peaks when I was lucky enough - it wasn't perfect but I made a nice win overall.
But I really wonder what all that has to do with predicitions and estimating news. DJ should have made so much more money today than anything else, so that the complete rest decays to side shows.
I don't know if the staff is just too concerned about the technical side atm and remains silent thatfor on this topic. Or if they keep those indices meanwhile as pure entertainment to keep the users at HD, till HD leaves beta to put some efforts into the substance in those later stages ... or if they really think it's perfect the way it is. Whatever, they didn't share their thoughts on this and it's getting worse. So I'll draw the conclusions and thatfor say bye.
That isn't meant to set anyone under pressure as in "oh no, he impends to leave if ...". Nah, I'm sadly not that special, hehe. I just felt that Nigel & Co deserved to know the reason why I left, as I guess that I'm not the only one with this aversion. So keep an eye on a balanced mix of substance and good luck with your further development, cya.

Nice that you guys realized the calculator ... partly :)
But furthermore I'd not only want that it calculates the percentage development according to the invested money, I'd prefer the reverse procedure. And there are 2 options:
1) Push money in till the total package hits a certain average percentage price.
2) Push money in till "the next dollar" hits the given limit.
I'd prefer method 2.
Plus, I think someone else mentioned that already, all bets should be summarized and be resellable $ for $, not just within the size you previously bought them.
Golwar replied on February 21, 2008 18:15 to the idea "Display Original "Likelihood Percentages" on Question Page" in Hubdub:
That's correct of course. I just hope that the HD Staff comes up with some good ideas how to raise ( and afterwards how to use ) those credited veterans or powerusers.
I already mentioned my void alert level once, I could imagine some ways to enhance that. For example give those who made many many questions in a category and have a very high settlement quote, plus maybe even made very much money on that field a higer void rating power than the common user. Summarize it and after a certain limit cause an automativ ( temporary ) void.
Another idea - increase the informations given in the creator's box. Add why the questioners previous questions got voided. Was it impossible to settle, bad odds or whatever reason the could be. Just 3-4 categories should be enough, so that you know where you have to look for mistakes. And perhaps don't mention only the percentage of settled questions, mark quality by stars or colors for example.
Or an enhancement of InfernalMachine's idea: prevent extreme odds by newcomers. Till the users reaches a certain reputation it should be impossible for them to create quotes with less than 15% for example. If they still want to do so, they will have to offer explanations like suggested. That should help all sides, the vets, the newcomers and the gamblers ;)
Golwar replied on February 21, 2008 17:38 to the question "A question of morality" in Hubdub:
"If someone creates a well structured, settleable question in a genuine (as opposed to a malicious) manner, then he/she and most likely others deem it to be legitimate and moral. As far as I am concerned, If I feel a question is immoral, I won't create it, nor will I make a prediction on it."
Well said Donal.
Of course there will always be persons who reconstrue ( is that the correct phrase for "giving a different interpretation ? ) what has been asked along their personal feelings and opinions, but that can't be prevented anyways.
As long as the quesion's intention isn't to hurt someones feelings per se or to express a valuation ...
Golwar marked one of Donal's replies in Hubdub as useful. Donal replied to the question "A question of morality".
Golwar reported a problem in Hubdub on February 21, 2008 15:05:
Bad language and similar concerns - naming the "evil"Ringo just made it up with "You are a facist fuck." in a thread where this reaction wasn't acceptable in any way.
His other comments also show some lack of good manners:

Someone else who shows at least some very ... unconventional political views, is jacktheseer:

That in his opinion the creation of the Euro was an unfriendly attack to undermine the US$ or his assumptions about the Galileo Network are one thing, statements that today's Germany isn't any different to that of the Nazi's is something else.
Golwar shared an idea in Hubdub on February 21, 2008 13:25:
International spoiler-alertWell everyone who watches Lost surely will agree that the suspense is elementary.
Problem here at HD - the US are, as usual, one season ahead. People create questions on the actual events, they make comments and everything reveals far more than some readers might want to know.
As it's impossible to recognize and ignore all that Lost-related material at once when they appear, I'd appreciate a solution that allows to blank out or suppress user-specified tags.
Or give the people the tools to blank out spoilers when they create questions and comments right away, but that would request that those people regard the interests of the rest.
Well, whatever - when I'll have to chose between Lost and HD, Lost wins ... sorry :P
Golwar replied on February 21, 2008 11:35 to the idea "Display Original "Likelihood Percentages" on Question Page" in Hubdub:
I'm not sure if explanations should be enforced. I for one would step down with creating questions, if I'd have to explain why Bayern is the huge favorite against Aberdeen, for example, all the time.
Creators already can use the background informations if they think that it's useful. If odds are realistic or not, will be recognized by others who have the necessary knowledge in that case anyways. No need to describe the materia so that really everyone understands the pro & contra.

Refresh is working for me.
I also appreciate the new comments overview, but I'd prefer if we get additional lists for comments with higher priority for each single user.
So I'd like to see if someone posted on my questions or if answers followed on my comments ... or if generally something happens in threads where I was active,-
Golwar started following the question "Incorrect questions: to flag or request settlement? that is the questions" in Hubdub.

Well I'll assume that this was partly said in my direction ... so I say thank you ;)
I might add a wish for a quicker process of creating questions. It's not really satisfying if you have to do all the same steps again and again for each football match, while the only differences might be the name of the participants and the odds.
If you guys find a good way to improve this I'd be grateful ( especially at times when the server is rather slow ) :)

He hasn't left the country and he was arrested for 2 days till he came free for a fee. I can't say how likely it was ...
I can't send a settlement request as the question is already settled, thatfor no such option is available.
Golwar replied on February 19, 2008 19:37 to the problem "Seeking repeal for the 50% penalty." in Hubdub:
Lol, that is simply insane.
Nooo, of course it's normal that multiaccounts are welcome, isn't it that way in any game ?
And of course HD has to prevent 95-5 questions technically, while they might be needed elsewhere ( as they are realistic values at some questions ), just so that dudes like sd can't abuse those odds.
Well after your responses I agree that you might lack the willingness to use odds in a logical way, so let's think together how we can protect HD from your questions ... hey, I have a great idea there. You too ?
Well let's give it a last try first ...
Read the rules and the guide how to create good questions. They say for example:
1.1
"Has reasonable starting likelihoods: when you create a question you choose the starting likelihoods of the outcomes too. It’s hard to decide these exactly, but likelihoods that are clearly out (e.g. Will Elvis return in 2008? 50%) can cause a question to be voided."
I mention that just in case that you repeat your dumb attitude given here:
"if someone else fails to bet on it or if it isn't voided in 12 hours it is a lapse on your side and it isnt my fault and niether it is my fault if hubdub gives me the go ahead with the question after 12 hours.so it is only fair that i start pourin money into it after 12 hours"
Neither do we have to scan all created cheating questions 24h/day just to stay on the same level as the cheater who created them, nor does the HD staff need the extra burden to find and void your questions.
If that is beyond your possibilities just leave. Sayonara !

Golwar replied on February 19, 2008 18:08 to the problem "How to flag faulty settlements? ...Kosovo, for example" in Hubdub:
Why bother with the media when you have the direct source ? ;)
http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/200...
Wiki is often a good place to find those sources, in this case I found it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internat...
Btw. I'm opposed to this development and the part the USA played in it. They guranteed the people of Kosovo their support for an independent state long ago. It's no surprise that every debate about the status of the Kosovo had to fail under those circumstances. Just another example how you should not act on the diplomatic level ... once more.

I'm not surprised that someone appeared who tried to cheat that way. But what really surprises me is his boldness and impudence he showed here.
The penalty was surely deserved, for his ignorance I'd punish him even a bit more. Perhaps take him another 20%, freeze his account for some days and in case he remains stubborn afterwards delete him. Usual procedure for such freaks.
Golwar replied on February 19, 2008 14:48 to the discussion "Love the new look" in Hubdub:
Perhaps you should also replace the created questions list that follows afer clicking on "more", by a list of still active questions. Should be more usefull ;)
Besides that, already settled questions should also be ignored by the automatic check up for already existing questions during the question creation process.
It's not really that usefull when all 5 hits are already settled, as there still might exist an active twin out there. Especially for topics with very regular used words and names this really reduces the functionality.
