    Ah, direct translations hurt !
    For example is must be "Ich bin _es_ nicht".
    Ich kann nicht Deutsch ( without -er and placed before ) Lesen / Schreiben / Sprechen.
    I guess you meant "Cool down ... something" ? Cool down is "Beruhige dich" or "Reg dich ab" in german.

    Complicated language, I know :)

    Nice, one more evidence that you should never underestimate the power of spiegel.de ;)
    But I'm surprised that France is totally missing.

    http://www.alexa.com/data/details/tra...

    Checking Alexa's traffic list Australia is by far the number 1 nation, followed by Israel, the USA, Canada, South Africa and Germany.

    And it seems that 2005/2006 there already existed a hubdub.site:
    http://www.urltrends.com/viewtrend.ph...
    http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://h...

    I wonder what "hubdub" could mean anyways :)

    I know that everyone has the right to pick his very own preferences. The huge difference here is that all those stock questions are the big moneymakers at hubdub.

    They cause the hyperinflation, they are the reason ( besides bugs and questions with irrational odds ) why there is so much money around so that you wonder where to put it to usage. So stock-inflation influences everyone at hubdub, thatfor I have the right to criticize them as I'd do with any other problem too :)

    And I know that I'm right on this topic. You just need to compare the development of the leaderboard on the weekend, where stocks ain't available, and the rest of the week where you have several of those daily but a bit less of the other questions.
    When the leaderboard is all about bugs, dumb questions and stocks, it ruins HD. While I'm confident that the first 2 will be handled, it seems that hyperinflation by no-brainers like daily indices gambles is welcome. So sorry, but I'll keep on pushing pressure on this case :)

    I just went threw the first 3 sites of the next to be closed questions anaverageamerican, one by one. As NBA questions ain't collected in a subgroup and thus confront us each single time, I consequently also mentioned them as they appeared and didn't summarize them in groups :)
    It was just a reflection of the status quo when you try to find a question that is relevant for yourself.

    And the difference between _you_ not knowing stuff like WWE or NBA All Stars and me, is that you just would have to turn on TV, read the newspaper or to listen to some friends or neighbours talking about it to change that.
    Yeah, I have the net but we both know that there is a huge difference between passive permanent informational sprinkling and the requirement for active exploration on the web.
    Point is that you mentioned DAX and ManU-Arsenal as something foreign and thatfor special for you. Imagine when this tag "special" would apply to almost every question. And ManU-Aresenal is surely quite different to some college basketball, hehe.
    The kind of national preferences I imagined would just have helped everyone to finde those not so special questions easier, while keeping the rest available nevertheless.

    I know that your intention wasn't really that negative. I was just surprised that there wasn't any positive reaction but 2 restrictive replies first. And it was even more irritating as both restrictions are self-evident and imho didn't really need to be mentioned at all ;)

    PS
    I connected the Kimbo question to the US because of this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimbo_Slice
    And it was very likely to be connected to the US anyways, as most questions are :P

    I disagree. Yahoo is covered well enough by questions who and when might buy them. The daily stock development isn't really that interesting or relevant. So perhaps another question at which prize Yahoo will finally be saled should cover every aspects of interest.

    Ah, there is someone who learned from the Facebook PR-Desaster :P

    How shall we expect those country specific sites to look like ? Is each of those a closed unit on it's own or just a seperate portal, with priority to national content, that nevertheless remains connected to the complete rest ?

    I know what you guys mean. At the beginning I tried to eliminate such questions by arguing with the creators over the comments or by simply flaging such questions.
    But the usual result is that the others simply shrug, give some stupid answers that thatfor the market would exist and take care about balancing it. And even in cases where mutual agreement is reached and multiple persons flag the question, there ain't a void coming. Instead those questions get settled.

    I remember very well the most extreme question I've seen yet:
    http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_H...
    I had to write a really angry mail till it reached the right person ( in that case Nigel ) who voided if afterwards. As we all know people still keep their insane wins in those cases.

    Or an actual example where something that should be at 70% started with 20%:

    I truly hope that PowerUsers rise soon and will finish off such crap.

    Just for rounding off:
    Next to be closed now are ...

    * NASCAR
    * NHL
    * Daytona
    * NBA All-Star
    * Daytona
    * College Basketball
    * American Gladiators
    * WWE
    * WWE
    * Weather in the US
    * Will Kimbo Slice defeat Tank Adams on February 16th? - wtf, I don't even know what that is about.
    * Question about US Movie which isn't on screen here yet, so nobody here can tell if it's good or not or if currently some better movies are running
    *NBA Trading question
    *NBA
    *SmackDown
    --> Hurray, a question about Pakistan. We have a winner here !! :-)
    * NCAAB
    * California Cycling
    * US Deal or no Deal
    * College Sports
    * Daytona
    * US retail average gasoline price
    * NCAAB
    * Daytona
    * US Satellite
    * NYSE
    * College Basketball

    Should I continue ? I only left 2 Hubdub questions out and a wrong settled football question. So lets talk about HD being a truely global community and the veritable danger of fragmentation in it's community :P

    I didn't even really realise that it's that bad before, till your response anaverageamerican. It even wasn't my concern, my idea was simply thought as an improvement for everyone.
    I must admit that the response left me somewhere between incredulity and being pissed off. For once because it regards only negative aspects and on the other side because everything you "feared" is already reality in some way, just not with any negative aspects for yourself so that you didn't realize it.

    1) We surely can expect hubdub to grow, that will improve the impact from different world regions.

    2) You already mentioned obvious national differences yourself, but on the other hand you doubt that it would influence the outcomes ? And I'd love to see those results. You only learn more about others when you recognize the differences.

    3) Currently HD is very US-orientated. Only very few friends whom I tried to decoy to HD, considered participation. Pretty much 3/4, if not even more, of the questions mean next to nothing to them. And from the small rest ... well they won't join for some dumb Britney Spears topics.
    People ain't willed to check dozenzs of questions just for one that might hit their sphere.

    So if you create kind of "clubs", is it by nationality or specified interest, you'll get more and not less people to join HD.
    That ain't splintering. If you don't accommodate to others they simply won't join anyways. Is that better than a purposeful layout which still remains wide open for anyone ? Those are just options to use, people won't be seperated right after they revealed their nationality. Sorry, but your "splintering" sounded more hysterical than profound :)

    Than we should add those options when asked for nationality ;-)

    * I'm far too embarrassed / ashamed by my nations bad reputation to tell you ( aka "We elected Bush twice" ).
    * I hate those dumb ***** in my neighbourhood !
    * I'm a cosmopolitan, really dude !
    * Honestly, I don't know.
    * My nationality is my religion and I want to keep it secret.

    Hehe, well no. Perhaps a little optional check box which asks if one wants to reveal their nationality ?

    Golwar
    Nationalities
    Nationality is already a part of the account informations - why not use it ?
    The most simple usage would be to add simple flags behind user names, is it in the profile, leaderboard etc.

    Furthermore you could create nationspecific statistics. Who are the leaders from nation X ? Where do my fellow countrymen currently invest most of their money ? And where did they in the past ?

    And it could be used to show divergent opinions of nations on one topic. So you could add to each question a kind of "national composition", which ranks the participating nations from the highest to the lowest values for each outcome.

    Ok, the last point would only become usefull when hubdub's priority shifts from trading to polls ( ha, I mentioned it once more ! :P )
    That are just some few ideas, I'm sure there is more one could achieve with this topic.

    Golwar
    Yeah, pretty much 2 extremes. But I get the uncertain impression that I'm all alone on my side ;)

    Imho just another more or less trade-centered game isn't anyting the web needs ... again. I could play any stock exchange game ( besides the fact I am already am an economist by profession, which leads to the conclusion that I surely don't want more of that as an hobby, hehe ) for the same or even better result.
    Damn, I could even pick any Browsergame like Galaxywars or whichever game has a market and trade part. It's always the same about buying cheap and selling expensive. That ain't a stroke of genius.

    It is ok as long as trading is just a pillar on which the predictions are based. But if predictions and questions are just arbitrary exchangeable components to push the prices around for the highest profit, well it simply ruins the right to exist of hubdub.

    It would be nice to see on which questions the most money is made currently. I'd be greatly astonished if it wasn't by those several daily indices games. The only utilizable kind of information we gain from that, is the fact that many many people out there are willed to stare on the charts for quick up & down reactions. Besides that there is absolutely no result gained ( nah, more virtual cash doesn't count ), what wise man usually call a complete waste of time. Right ? =)

    I don't say that the other questions out there are all tremendously innovative, creative and informative. But if there ain't any intention to embank the flood of worthless but lucrative gambles, we'll never see any greater effort for the real stuff. Those few that raise up will simply perish.

    Sorry if my english skills fail to communicate my intentions properly. Well, I'll leave it anyways to the hubdub staff to make their pick. I repeated myself often enough: indices and similar "questions" need a major reconsideration. I'm just surprised that I'm seemingly the only one with this desire.

    DOW ain't news, indices are themselves just valuations of news, companies efforts, their success and political events / news.
    So you just measure at hubdub how something else measures news ? ... boring !
    And who says that we need a daily 50-50 gamble ? And it isn't even just one. It's Dow Jones, NASDAQ, S&P, DAX, MIBTEL, Hang-Seng.
    And not to forget those additional "specials". Will it reach X or drop below Y ? And the very newest development: crude senseless formulas like 2*S&P + NASDAQ > DOW/2 or whatever it was.

    I'm really really sorry, but that ain't any news at all. It just drifts the interest away from the stuff that hubdub should really care about.

    If that stuff is really necessary reduce it. Take 2 Indices and ask how they might develop during the complete next week. Suspend it before the weeks begins and fine. That would be some prediction about the next weeks future.
    But this crap right now ? You stare at a chart and buy and sell accordingly within minutes ... news ... bah, don't make me laugh :(
