Hey Timothy...did you get it yet?
It'll be 3 weeks since placing my order on Monday (today is Saturday), and my FedEx shipping status suggests it hasn't even shipped yet.
I've emailed and asked for an update, haven't received one. I guess I'm a little put off seeing that, even though I placed my order early in the morning on the very first day it was available for purchase, there are folks here on this site who have apparently received theirs weeks ago.
I'm trying not to be a jerk about it, but that fact coupled with a useless tracking number and no response from the company - not to mention that my credit card was billed the day I bought it - well, I understand it's a brand new operation, but basic rules of customer service still apply. It's gonna sting a bit if I'm stuck carrying a balance for a full billing cycle on a product I haven't received...

I do utilize time machine, so I probably do. I'm really weary of further meddling with Fontcase just to try to get it to work properly. I'm not sure I can convince myself that it's smart to continue using it, since it seems that at any time something could happen that sends me back to square one (again) in my font management. I really *want* to like and use this app...but it has proven to be a real pain on multiple fronts. I guess it just works for most people...I dunno. Maybe I've got too many fonts and it just can't handle them. Is there a practical limit on the # of fonts it can manage, and what is that number?
gotommy replied on September 03, 2009 15:28 to the problem "Missing Library...Missing Tags, Ratings..." in Bohemian Coding:
So, just to see what would happen. I used the import fonts option on the vault itself (the one the app was using, that was filled with fonts that weren't appearing in the app), and it did import them - and they do now appear in the app. However, the tags are still gone and there were a lot (almost 100) import errors that I've never encountered before.
gotommy replied on September 03, 2009 15:18 to the problem "Missing Library...Missing Tags, Ratings..." in Bohemian Coding:
I dunno - I think I upgraded very recently, and then just yesterday there was another upgrade (as if you'd found a problem with the upgrade...).
I tried using the old vault...I pulled it out of the trash and placed it on a different disk, then redirected Fontcast to use it. It restarted, but now displays no fonts whatsoever, even though the vault itself is many hundreds of megabytes in size. My examining the package contents I can see all the fonts in it. But Fontcase shows none.
Any idea what's up with that?
gotommy reported a problem in Bohemian Coding on September 02, 2009 22:08:
Missing Library...Missing Tags, Ratings...Yet more problems with Fontcase...
I launched Fontcase today after a few months of relatively trouble-free use (it was a nightmare for a while, and seemed to have been fixed), and got a notice to upgrade, so I did. Well I tried.
The update downloaded, but the app was in a death spiral - my library was apparently missing (though it really wasn't - it hadn't moved and was where it always was) so the app acted like it had no library and it wouldn't continue past the first launch screen - no matter which buttons I pressed it wouldn't continue to the app, so I had to quit in order to get it to continue and it would then it would halt the update process.
Launch the app again...get the first launch screen...download update...it won't run so I quit the app.
Lather, rinse, repeat.
So I completely uninstalled the app, downloaded a fresh copy of the app from the Web site, installed it.
This time it launched and fully ran. But my library was reset, so I relocated it and it helpfully noted that I had to relaunch the app to use the new library.
Restart - there are my fonts. Great! Except that now all of my tags and ratings are gone. Hundreds and hundreds of tags and ratings...just vanished. Not to mention any collections I had created. Hours spent categorizing my fonts to allow me to find them, gone.
I'm beyond over this app.
I still have the files from the previous installation, but I'm afraid to reinstate any of them for fear of putting the app back into its death spiral. I'd always thought the meta info was stored in the font database, but apparently it's not.
If there's a way to restore the tags and ratings without screwing up the installation, I'd sure like to know about it.

Thanks for the tip, Steve. I may have to try SpiderOak...on top of the problems with Sugarsync (long standing, widespread, no end-in-sight problems), SS is more expensive than most other solutions. Looks like I can get 100gb there for the same price as 60gb here.
SS may have pushed me beyond the tipping point of my customer loyalty...

After going back and forth with someone in a support ticket, I also was offered a live call to discuss my particular issues, but after I replied SS fell totally silent. Still waitin' on that call...

gotommy replied on August 10, 2009 16:22 to the idea "SugarSync should allow Mac users to remove the icon from the Dock" in Sharpcast:
The only thing worse than no information is misinformation. A company shouldn't pretend to listen to its customers' concerns when it's really just doing the bare minimum (arguably) that it can do and still turn a profit. Don't pretend to be engaged in a forum ("Sharpcast employees are here to help!") when you are just feeding false (if well intentioned, at first anyway) promises then bail on the conversation when folks come around expecting accountability for those promises. The loudest sound in a customer service forum shouldn't be the company's silence. Grow a spine, and level with your customers.
I cannot tell you how many times I've been told to "hang tight" 'cuz they are totally working on an issue...but the issue does not get resolved (no matter how many times I send in my log files or I un-install, re-install, and re-sync my entire system). It's been almost 3 months since we've seen an update on a piece of "beta" software. I dunno if it's still in beta for Windows, but it clearly still is for Macs - so why do Mac users pay full price for less functionality? And why are they charging for beta service/software anyway? I realize Google kept gmail in beta for like 5 years...but it's free (and from day 1 it worked better in beta than Sugarsync ever has).
We all have a choice...if we don't like it, don't buy it. Of course Sharpcast claims it will not refund one nickel of your subscription fee, no matter how lousy the service has been, to those who may have foolishly paid for a year. I realize they don't want their cancellation policy to encourage folks to leave (the service itself is already doing a pretty good job at that), but I think any honest, fair-minded person would agree that - under the circumstances - at least a pro-rated subscription refund is entirely reasonable (if not in-full).
I've been telling myself for many months that I'm *sure* they're going to straighten out these issues any day now. Any day now...a software update will arrive and the service will just work as promised. It's close...it really is. It does some things I need better than other services I have found (so far...). But 3 months without an update - and 5 months since a peep in this thread? Are we sure anyone still works at Sharpcast?
Could someone please put a mirror under Sharpcast's nose and let the rest of us know if it's still breathing?

Worse than slow...just doesn't work.I just tried to install the tinymce module on a Drupal site using ExpanDrive and couldn't do it. Aside from being painfully slow...it just wouldn't complete the upload. It would copy a few things (very slowly) and then tell me it couldn't continue because some file was in use. I tried installing it bit by bit...a file here, creating a folder manually and then uploading the contents. Got a bit more installed that way, which took several minutes, and then it failed again.
Fired up Transmit, dropped the entire folder and - no exaggeration - it was done in 30 seconds.
What's the problem?

gotommy replied on May 16, 2009 15:58 to the idea "SugarSync should have plans larger than 250GB." in Sharpcast:
I agree...as this space expands, with more and more options cropping up, $100 per year for 60gb is a little hard to swallow compared to $72 per year for UNLIMITED (and the ability to backup data on external drives - it's baffling to me that SS only works with an internal drive).
I'm stuck in that I really want SS to be my single sync + backup solution - because there are a lot of things I like about it - but the cost is prohibitive (to back up everything I need backed up), as even the largest plan costs $1 per gigabyte (again, compared to $5 a month for unlimited). Plus I keep a lot of work files and my music and photos on an external drive. Right now I'm running Backblaze to backup everything, and SS to sync + backup just some of my files. I really only want to have one service...
These issues seems fixable, so I guess I'm hanging around hoping they get fixed...-
