I posted in another thread on this topic about JuK for linux and its nice customisation features for file organisation and renaming. I don't know how far development has got with this but today I finally dusted off my kubuntu install and took a couple of screenshots to show what I mean:
This is the File Renaming scheme dialogue. Moving the fields up and down the list changes their position in the file name:

This one is the dialogue you get when you press the options button on any of the fields in the other pic. It allows you to place text before and after the field:

Graham Snyder replied on April 25, 2009 12:35 to the question "Considering moving from iTunes, how much better is it?" in Songbird:
As regards memory usage, I find it uses less with a standard install, and about the same as or more than itunes's peak memory usage if I'm using lots of addons and the web browser - but this is improving with every release.
There is a coverflow-like addon called MediaFlow available here. The major advantage of Songbird over iTunes is the huge variety of addons available for things like last.fm intergration, upcoming concerts, and all sorts of other cool stuff, in addition to most of itunes's features.

Thanks Laura, that's exactly what we wanted to hear - in fact when you posted that message I'd got most the way through composing a long post centring on the lack of (visible) acknowledgement and recognition this thread seemed to have received in terms of a thread status, roadmap entry, and bugzilla entries. It seems today things have come to a head and it's now getting the attention it deserves - huzzah! This sort of discussion and communications with your users is what I like so much about the bird and its community. – Graham Snyder, on April 24, 2009 00:05

Yesterday I lost my internet connection for a few minutes, but when it resumed, the scrobbler wouldn't reconnect until I restarted songbird. Surely it should just reconnect as soon as there's an internet connection?
Not really the same the above problem but being a last.fm performance issue I guess it's sufficiently closely related to go here.-

Graham Snyder shared an idea in Songbird on April 13, 2009 14:27:
Previous track button should return to start of current track on first pressI think the previous track button would be a lot more functional if on its first press, it took you back to the start of the currently playing song instead of to the previous track, and then back to the previous track if pressed again within a certain time (or alternatively if within a certain time of the start of the track). This a function I seem to require quite frequently, and at the moment it requires going back a song and then forward again. This behaviour is common in other media players; please add it, even if only as an option hidden in about:config!
Edit: just realised the below (struck) is already covered by this bug.
On a separate but related point, I find that when using the seek bar, the song does not resume playback until a couple of seconds after you position the marker, so that if you drag it back to the start, you miss the first few seconds of the song - and this is what made me notice the previous-button behaviour in the first place.
