maybe you sent in something wrong, like the wrong mac address? you need to enter the mac address of your router, not your own airport/wifi card!!!
did you get an email from skyhook acknowledging your entry? if not it didn't go thru, if yes, and after 3 weeks it still doesn't show, use loki under firefox 2, and manually place yourself, telling the system where you are with the wifi mac address the OS tells the loki engine it sees, that way no need to copy and paste the mac addresses or the possibility to enter the wrong mac address/es... the loki.com way is also faster than skyhookwirless.com...!!! if you did both it might be that the system canceled the entry due to 2 different location for one mac address.... just use one this time...
and you can reach ryan directly via AIM for example... just use his full name:-)

Perhaps it will take as long to get a response here as it's taking to get my data added... Sweet. – hyachts, on September 16, 2008 16:31

I submitted my AP and the other AP that is reliably visible to my home over three weeks ago and still have not seen positioning with either Loki or my Eye-Fi card. I've emailed both Skyhook support and Loki support and have gotten no response from either entity. C'mon guys, adding points to the database should be your bread and butter...

Is there a way to submit a GPS log from NetStumbler or something? I live in a rural area that isn't really covered but with 1 hour of driving around I could help make a lot of users really happy. – CatsAreGods, on August 23, 2008 14:23

I've thought a lot about this, and I wonder if it's not already happening. The Skyhook people say that the network is self-healing, and that even without rescanning an area the database can learn from users using the system. I don't know why they wouldn't take the GPS and wifi input from users to fine-tune their data. – Chris, on August 10, 2008 04:26

Why not let iPhone users (and others) submit matched Wi-fi locations and GPS locations automatically, then everyone will be "driving around".
The coverage here in Denmark is terrible and fine tuning is only for USA (???). If you have millions of iPhone users submitting locations all the time then this could really take off.

you would need to be able to drive around 5h/day, otherwise you can't drive every road in the assigned area. if you have the time to stay in a specific area and drive 5-10h/day for a couple of days you will be fine. but just driving through an area on the bigger surface streets won't do it.
the database needs to be as diverse as it can get to be precise. let's say your location. it would be good to actually scann 50-100m away from your house, in front, behind, to the right and to the left of it. then there;s a very good chance you collect enough wifi-routers to actually triangulated yuor position. if the database can only count on one wifi-routers mac address it can only place you in a radius of 200m within that area...
if your iphone sees let's say 5 wifi-routers that have 3 different geolocations in a 300m radius, the chance that it will get your loations within 10-20m of your actual location will be very high...

so your in between eindhoven and utrecht. would be a good area to scan...
i would suggest you enter your info into skyhooks driver database with a date that you have time to scan... i think they're pretty flexible, when you don;t have time you just send the equipment back and when you have time again they will send it to you again...
if they get back to you you can still make the decision then, but if you don;t apply you won't have the opportunity...

if you do it like this:
try to scan for all wifi-routers you can see in one location, not just one.
there's an application called APlogger for the iphone. you get the log file via SSH from the iphone after your done scanning. you can save different locations in one go.
then you enter the various wifi-router mac addresses in the skyhook mask later. the more frequent you scan, let's say every 50-100m, the more precise you can locate yourself.

right now only amsterdam (complete) and rotterdam (partly) have been scanned in the netherlands.
