I also have this problem. It's VERY frustrating, because I use the addon Auto-fill forms on multiple sites and i can't choose an auto-selection on select dropdowns because I can't get a context menu on them. I don't like having to find some other way to bypass this. Having a context menu on it would make sense, you should be able to do the same things to a select input as a text input, like copy or paste.

Well I have no other choice but to run a destructive recovery just to get rid of this Buggy Firefox browser. I will not reinstall it, because it dose have way to many bugs Mozilla really needs to get a hold on these problems and fix them. Firefox 3 is the worse version of Firefox to date. they have taken a very good browser and really messed it up. its not worth a penny the way it is now, its a total flop. I have been using Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome and they are pretty good I have been using both for 2 months and neither one of them has crashed. Internet Explorer 8 Froze up on me one time. but that was due to a Frefox plug-in somehow got installed on Internet Explorer 8

If it will not uninstall in safe mode and the safe mode you refer to is the operating system's safe mode then it is pretty unlikely for Firefox itself to be causing that, since it does not run on startup (and certainly not in safe mode). But doublecheck it is indeed not listed in the task manager's processes tab, just to be sure. What is the exact error message telling you it is "locked down"? – mzz, on October 03, 2008 03:05

I would close Firefox, But it will not close Its not there and its not listed in the task manager and it will not let me uninstall it because it says its still running but I can't see it anywhere and I can't manually delete it because it says its running and when i went into safe mode it said i can't because its still running, and this is for real it is really doing this. – Unknown Person, on October 03, 2008 02:47

You're leaving because I asked you to confirm that you were NiteOwl on IRC (I can check logs and see that UnknownPerson has the same address as NiteOwl)? Don't forget to not recommend this site to your split personalities, such as Chimpanzee, who mentioned he was connecting from work (you recently said you were connecting from an apartment complex with 6 apartments). It is plain to see everyone is trying to help you and you are not interested in telling the truth. Even in my post where I asked you to confirm that you were in fact NiteOwl, I offered assistance. That's not being "mean", that's just trying to keep things sorted out.
Also, NiteOwl and UnknownPerson connected from Illinois, not New York.
Split personalities are very difficult to assist. – Thomas, on October 03, 2008 02:46

There are at least three things you might have tried to clean up a malfunctioning Firefox installation:
- Reinstall it. This rarely helps: it only overwrites files the installer put in the installation directory, not files added later, and those files rarely get corrupted. It occasionally fixes problems caused by an interrupted or otherwise malfunctioning upgrade.
- Remove the installation directory (c:\program files\mozilla firefox\ normally) and reinstall it. This gets rid of installed plugins, global extensions, and some global components installed by third-party applications (some virus scanners hook into Firefox like this). This helps much more often than just reinstalling does, and does not usually "cost" you much (other than a few plugins you can just reinstall when you find out you need them). If I understand correctly you recently did this.
- Use a fresh profile. The profile is where every file Firefox writes after the installer finishes lives (bookmarks, user settings, user extensions, etc.). If I understand correctly you have not tried doing this after the fresh install in an empty directory. I recommend you do this (on top of the fresh reinstall). You might also want to consider installing in a non-standard location (a very long shot, but your problems are also very weird, so...)
The easiest way to do this is add a second profile by running firefox as "firefox.exe -P -no-remote" (see http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/M... and add -no-remote to make it work if firefox is not currently completely closed). Then add and tell it to use a new profile. Do not add any extensions and plugins, but apart from that use it normally.
If you feel you must use flash, please try to use the flash 10 release candidate (google will tell you where to get it). The flash 9 plugin is known to interfere with the mozilla crash reporter. If you do not really need flash do not install the plugin.
I am also curious about the security software you use (not sure if you mentioned it here, but you did mention it on irc and/or live chat). It restarting the system for you is somewhat unusual. Do you know what software is doing this?
It is very unlikely the changes between Firefox 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 were relevant to your problem (the only change in there was related to saved passwords containing non-english characters and would not crash, just cause saved passwords to stop working). But it is quite possible reinstalling or changing Firefox.exe helped in some other way (if something external is interfering).
I'm glad you're getting "faster and more answers from here" on irc.mozilla.org #firefox on top of the "only" help from Thomas here on getsatisfaction :)

How to get past that message is documented here:

This often happens when Windows crashes badly while Firefox is running, but has some other causes. See that page. – mzz, on October 03, 2008 02:25

That url,http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm...
, contains "TheNiteOwl" in the URL. You denied being NiteOwl on IRC. Would you like to retract that statement now?
Also, why do I see a Logitech Quickcam icon on the desktop? I thought you uninstalled that. An uninstall should remove that icon.
Since it says Firefox is already running, open Task Manager (hit ctrl alt del, that should bring it up, if not, when you do that hit the button titled "Task Manager), find Firefox.exe on the Processes tab (not the Applications tab) and hit End Task. Let me know if that helps.

hold the windows button and hit R, then type firefox -p. click 'new profile', create one, use it, and check the box to not ask you every time (or uncheck the one that says ask every time, i forget which one it is). not sure if you did make a new profile or not so, just checking. – Thomas, on October 01, 2008 01:54

Kind of the same, but I'm using Windows xp not vista. its like I'm clicking on the X button on the top right top of the browser.
it has closed 14 more times since I posted this new issue.
I do not have any add-ons or plug-ins. I'm running Firefox naked
I went to #firefox and told them they said its happening a lot that its most likely a bug and I was told to delete the Firefox folder do not uninstall it, Delete it. then search the computer for Firefox and Mozilla folders and files and delete them, then install Firefox again. so I did and right after i did and it was on the welcome page it closed. It didn't make any difference at all. – Unknown Person, on October 01, 2008 01:42
