I called the dell support telephone number and told them I needed to renew my warranty and I overlooked the date of expiration ( I googled that number). They said no problem and offered me a 2 year extended warranty. You can not report the problem until the at least the next bussiness day. I renewed my warranty on a friday and called about the problem on Monday. Let them know you know it's the power addapter connected to the mother board. They will try to send you a new power cord. I have 2 dell laptops so I knew it had nothing to do with the power cords or battery packs. I had my laptop fixed by wednesday.
I hope this helps.

P.S. Don't call the XPS special service number because all it will tell you is the warranty has expired. You will not be able to contact dell with a real person.

I recently expirenced the same problem with the power connector on the mother board. I called dell and they let me renew my warrenty for 2 years for about 280 bucks. (my warrenty expired 3 months ago)This included next day service. I fiugured with the cost of a new motherboard and labor this was the best way to go. The local shop told me just repairing the connector wouldn't last. So tomorrow I will call dell and report the problem and get it fixed by tuesday. and by the way the local shop gave me an est. of $400 to do the job. So I saved a 100 plus and now I have a 2 year bumper to bumper coverage.
Hope this helps..!
P.S. Brad thanks for the tip...it worked
