Albert, thanks for your feedback and valuable suggestion. Indeed, there are several desktop RSS readers which can help you monitor your Yokway feed and alert you whenever something is posted. The one I use is NewGator Desktop, which is very slick. When you are on Yokway though, the service will also notify you whenever something is posted on your feed, via a little notification that will appear at the bottom right of your screen. This way you do not have to refresh the page to find out if new content is available. See example at http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3103/2...

Can I make a suggestion that I think will help with how others use Yokway? Create an agent that you can install either on Windows or MacOS that will periodically monitor posts on Yokway and pop-up a little notification (something like what Thunderbird does when there's new mail). This way, I don't need to constantly goto a browser window and refresh. If there's something interesting (or for example if someone adds a new comment), I get the notification and can click the box to launch a browser window to Yokway. I think some RSS readers have this and it's very handy. This is especially nice while at work where you can't really dedicate too much time for RSS/message boards and you would like something like a news ticker type of notification mechanism.

    Hi Guillaume.

    Regarding your comment:
"When I create a new post, sometimes, I'd like to be able to put a link (easily) to a related post that may already exist."

Our next deployment will feature a automated listing of postings related to the item a user currently posts, which will not only allow the user to see similar items with no effort, but also will give users the opportunity to discover like-minded people / people who have the same interests on Yokway.

Thanks again for your valuable feedback.

    On the questions:

    1) Not share an existing post, no. I'll illustrate this with an example. I shared a link to a SlideShare presentation on design patterns in online communities, then, later on, a link to the book on collective intelligence. In my last post, I wanted to reference the post on the design patterns presentation, while sharing this book recommendation, to let people make the link between the two.

    2) I'm still not sure what I would really want to see. At least, being able to suggest some new categories would be good sometimes. But regarding tags, tags can really become messy (you'd see my delicious account...). Perhaps tags would be good to have too, yes, the concept is very well understood and is wide-spread.

    3) At this point I only see one concept: filters. Which in my mind are like categories. Hence why I can mix both terms interchangeably. Unless I'm missing some Yokway feature?
I think we shouldn't add too many different kind of categorization support. Tags (user driven) and filters (yokway driven) are more than enough.
But for sure, the more I share, the more I'll need to search in my own posts, and if I had tags, that would be handy (beyond just search forms).

    On the remarks:

    1) Excellent news!

    2) Yes, being able to change the "guessed type" would be handy and is needed IMHO.

Thx for your feedback Guillaume. Some questions :

1 - being able to link to an existing post : do you mean that what you would like to do is to share something as if you would comment another post ?

2 - new filters (or item types) : for US places, Yokway can guess whether you are sharing an hotel or a restaurant (although only the restaurant filter is displayed)... When you say "add some new filter" does it mean you would like to see other types or that you think you should be able to create you own (like tags) ?

3 - Do you (or would like to) see a difference between filter and category ?

    Some remarks :

1 - Yokway will soon be able to recommend you related items and circles. This will be a first step towards interesting features like contact discoveries ...

2 - The book type is guessed by some Yokway magic. In your case, this magic did not happen but this should be solved soon. You are right though, a user should be able to change the "guessed type".

Your comparison with Digg, Delicious and Twitter is interesting. Yokway's intention is also to open sharing and recommendation features to more real world items (not only web sites or blog articles).

    Feedback and suggestions
Stéphane already forwarded some feedback to Cyril, but I'm going to sum up my suggestions or impressions here.

When I create a new post, sometimes, I'd like to be able to put a link (easily) to a related post that may already exist.

A minimal set of smileys should be recognized

Also, URLs should be recognized both inside posts and comments (with some regex magic).

I'd like to be able to browser the existing sharing cycles, to find some topics that may interest me. Further down the road, it would be great if there were some recommendation mechanism to suggest sharing cycles related to the ones I'm participating to.

Same thing for people: I'd like to find new friends, and have Yokway tell me that I may be interested in subscribing to X and Y because they share the same interests as me.

Is there or will there be a possibility to add some new filters? For instance, the other day, I wanted to share my recommendation of an hotel, the last time I went to SF, but there was no way to do this apart from just sharing the URL to the website.

Once a post is published, there doesn't seem to be a way of putting a post in a category: for instance, I posted something about a book, but I can't add it back to the book recommendation category.

What I'm also missing is a link for help: how do I use the site, where can I put some feedback, how can I get in touch with the founders, etc.

And also, as people tend to make comparisons with things they know, having some "mission statement" saying more clearly what Yokway is about, how it is intended to be used, may help. For instance, my current understanding is that it's kind of a mix between Digg (where you push news and comment), Delicous (where you bookmark interesting stuff), and Twitter (because you can life stream the interesting stuff you saw). Is it a good comparison?
