This actually came up at last weeks SciLands senate meeting. It's tough to balance some organizations requirement to be closed for business during development vs. the idea of having an open community. I mean the point to being in a virtual continent is that folks can travel from point A to point B right? ;-)
Long story short, I'm not sure anything was decided. We have closed regions up in NOAA's portion of SciLands but thankfully it doesn't affect anyone else. Hopefully the situation resolves itself in short order!

Hi Terry,

I'm personally hoping the SciLands classroom site becomes a community focal point. The combination of Moodle (a traditional LMS) and SLoodle (a module that bridges the gap between the 2D and 3D) could really impact the usability and the quality of the material we have available in the SciLands community.
Unfortunately, it has yet to materialize -- at least in the way I envision it. Recently, I developed a number of Second Life "how-to" courses because, well, that's what I know. My hope is by making this available for free to the SciLands community we might convince other educators to create course ware related to their area of expertise that other groups could then take advantage. Everything would be released under the creative commons.
It remains to be seen if this concept successfully materializes.

I believe if an organization desires resources from an existing SciLands member ts up to the local land lord to determine the appropriateness. That said, if a particular SciLands member decided to host something that was inappropriate to SciLands the senate might have something to say about it.

I should probably point out that "Maya Realities" *is not* the company "Maya" which designs 3D animation software. We are a metrics and analytics company that helps organizations with an existing infrastructure in virtual worlds understand the return on their investment.
