Yeah, if the onclick code is triggered then the user is immediately taken away from the page, the onclick event cannot be viewed before it disappears.
I would suggest keeping a second tab (or menu option) which can display all the requests from the previous page, this would be useful beyond the onclick issue as well.

Yes that's exactly right. You can sometimes catch it if you are quick with the escape key, but that is not a great solution. Thanks! -
