hellobethanne replied on November 18, 2008 14:54 to the problem "T-Mobile customers are not receiving tweets from 40404 via sms (Nov 2008)" in Twitter:
doing this anyway......
* twitter username: hellobethanne
* country/provider: USA / t-mobile
* SMS previously working? yes. and it still works if i text someone or send a message to my email address, but not to twitter's 40404 number
* Phone successfully verified right now? NO! :( (it was before. now it won't let me post anything and i had to delete my verification and start over. i still can't verify my device again)
* Any response when you send ON via sms? yeah. "ACCESS DENIED"
* Tweets sent from sms successfully posted on web? NO
* Do tweets sent by sms show up late on the website? no
* Last tweet successfully posted via sms was: back in september 2008
* Still receiving tweets via sms now? no because i just use my phone to post TO my timeline
* i check my twitter updates on the web. constantly.
* Support ticket number (if one has been logged): 329311
* Any comments or observations: even when trying to text to the 40404 number, i keep getting access denied. i am feeling pretty sad about it because i like to update my timeline from my phone when i'm away from a computer so that i can keep in contact with my friends. it's easier that way. :(

did that before when i had my original post on it and it worked. (and it still does)
i found out from someone that the problem IS on t-mobile's end. they're cracking down on people who are texting to the 40404 number. and that's not cool.

apparently, the links are from 2007, but i was able to use my phone with twitter just fine until i changed my numbers and had some stuff happen where i was having problems with twitter. :( – hellobethanne, on November 18, 2008 14:40-

i just called t-mobile and i tried re-registering my phone with twitter and i'm STILL getting the same message (the "access denied" message) that i've been getting for a while.
the conclusion is that it HAS to be something on twitter's end because i'm able to send messages to everywhere else and people get them fine, but it's something on twitter's end that is causing all of my messages to NOT be accepted. the lady at t-mobile explained that they cannot do individual blocks on numbers and therefore, twitter's 40404 number isn't blocked. (if it was blocked, then it wouldn't be just twitter, but every number that i text to.) i don't know if this is a known issue with twitter and i wish that they had an alternate number i could text to and forward these texts to my phone. (i even tried texting "HELP" to the twitter number to see if i can get help and guess what? "access denied")

my following/followers count has been off for four months by one. it's getting frustrating.
username: hellobethanne
no devices activated (tried to activate the cell phone to the account, but that's another issue altogether.)
i know i am only following the amount of people who follow me. not one extra. please help me out with this. :(-

i have t-mobile and i still cannot send messages to twitter from my phone without getting a text that says "access denied" (i posted about it on a separate post on this board a while ago when i couldn't get any messages posted to my timeline from my phone. i am going to call t-mobile and see if they blocked the 40404 number and have them unblock it. :(-

hellobethanne replied on November 18, 2008 03:22 to the question "API Friends and Followers is not accurate." in Twitter:
i have an uneven friend count. right now, i'm following 124 people. and 124 people are following me. HOWEVER, twitter says i am actually following 125 people. one more person less. i have gone into my following page, counted each and every person i am following and it says i'm following exactly the number of people who are following me.
this has been going on for quite some time (since twitter had that big crash with the followers/following data being messed up) and that is when i started having this problem.-

hellobethanne reported a problem in Twitter on November 17, 2008 20:06:
can't send DMs to new followers! old followers still IN DM list!this is a two-part question to a bug that i just submitted to twitter's support.
one) i just removed some people from my list and when i go to send anyone a DM, the users that i recently removed are STILL on the list! mind you, i removed them both on my following AND followers list. they shouldn't be on my DM list (in the drop down box) to send a DM to anymore. is this a recent bug that's going on?
at the same time:
two) some new people have followed me (and i followed back) sent me a few DMs and when i go to reply to them, after clicking the little envelope, i get a pop-up warning that says "you must follow (username) to send a DM!" and it's like "hey, i'm ALREADY following them!" now, i CAN send them a DM if i go through their profile and click "message (username)" and then go from there, but i can't do it when i go through my own direct messages link on my profile. (the image below reflects this problem.)
any help would be greatly appreciated.
A comment on the problem "texts to twitter, twtiter says "access denied"" in Twitter:
i was able to receive tweets before on my phone before. what happened was that i had to change my phone number and then after i was receiving unauthorized text messages (from companies who texted the person who had my number before me), t-mobile put a block on all web messages on my account. it took them a month (after lots of calls to their customer service) to remove the block completely and i can receive web messages again just fine. but i'm still having problems with twitter.
i will call t-mobile and ask them about whether or not the shortcode for twitter is blocked on my phone. it definitely opens up another possibility on their end that not all of my problem was initially fixed.
i have already tried today to "delete" and start over with the devices. i also sent a support ticket to twitter when the problems started happening. [link removed] don't know if that link will work, but i keep updating it with more information when i can. – hellobethanne, on November 09, 2008 13:52

Whoops. Sorry about missing that info.
There's a blogpost on the Twitter Status blog 4 days ago where Twitter states they're having trouble delivering messages *to* T-mobile.
There's also a blogpost from yesterday that says they've fixed most of the issues but some still linger.
But usually, when people have trouble verifying their phones, the main symptom is that there's no response at all from Twitter. "Access denied" is new.
Do you get "access denied" also when you send ON to 40404?
If yes, can you try sending to another shortcode, such as the one used by Google? If you get an "access denied" error from that also, then we can conclude it's not Twitter-specific.
Here's the relevant excerpt from the Troubleshooting: Phone Verification page in Twitter's FAQ:
Test your phone's ability to message to short codes in general by sending a message to the Google shortcode, 46645. (GOOGL)
Send something like "weather, san francisco." If you get a reply, you know your phone is able to receive messages from short codes.
----------------------------
mdy: for some reason, i got your comment in the email and NOT in my post. :(
i also get an access denied text when i send ON to the 40404 number. i DID use the google number to send a message and they immediately sent me back a message with the weather for my city, so i KNOW that i can get messages from short codes, but i can't get messages from twitter.
i will look into the blog posts. but i guess i'm the lingering problem. it's just really frustrating because i'm away from my computer a lot now (due to work) and i'd like to keep up with my friends on twitter when i'm using my phone to send an update. :(

texts to twitter, twtiter says "access denied"when i try and send a message via text to my twitter account, i constantly get a text back from twitter saying "access denied" even when i tried to delete my phone number and then re-register my device with twitter, when i text them the code from my account, i STILL get "access denied" texts from twitter. i checked with my cell phone provider and everything was working on their end in terms of web messages unblocked on my phone. but when i try and text and update to twitter via my device, i get an immediate text back saying "access denied", is this a known issue with twitter and how long will it take to fix? (i have t-mobile as my phone provider. my twitter updates are protected based on my own personal reasons.)
