A comment on the problem "Songbird fails to start on some Linux systems due to gstreamer-python" in Songbird:
zoet13 When I add those software sources I get the following error:
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY D725E4885719E347
Do you know how to add the key? – hellocatfood, on October 30, 2009 19:37

A comment on the question "Why is Songbird suddenly not playing audio with songs?" in Songbird:
Well, (un)fortunately Ubuntu crashed completely forcing me to do a reinstall and now everything works great. – hellocatfood, on August 24, 2009 18:44
A comment on the idea "Podcast subscription support" in Songbird:
I think perhaps they do need more staff or they could do what Firefox does and encourage more awesome plugins to be developed. Some sort of competition? In time I guess – hellocatfood, on August 22, 2009 21:55
A comment on the idea "Podcast subscription support" in Songbird:
I can definitely understand your frustration and everyone else's. There are other media players that can do similar things to songbird but (in my opinion) they've either had longer to develop their software (winamp has been around for probably over 10 years) or have a bigger development team i.e. iTunes/Windows Media Player. I know it's no consollation saying that these features will be "coming soon" but at least the roadmap shows that they are listening to their users and will implement these features.
Another one of the problems Songbird faces is that it's cross-platform. At one time iTunes was Mac only and Windows Media Player and Winamp are only for Windows. Rhythmbox, whilst offering Podcast support and other features not present in Songbird, is only for Linux. Trying to build for three or more systems and making it work is going to introduce many more problems and hurdles to overcome.
I think it boils down to what the priorities are. They could implement all these features hastily and yet not have the core music player function, they could have a yearly development cycle which would leave many users in the dark but give them plenty of time to make things work or they could push ahead with regular releases. I think the third option is the best as users can see that progress is being made.
Alas, it's still sad to see you go, but I hope you come back to the nest soon! – hellocatfood, on August 22, 2009 18:23
