A comment on the problem "Unable to connect to services when behind a proxy" in The Cosmic Machine:
It is a rather restricted evironment. The proxy that is used is a Microsoft ISA proxy server. Which only supports http(s) POST/GET if I'm correctly. Also no other ports than 80 and 443 can be used (you need a Windows tool to connect to other ports...) but if regular http(s) POST/GET is used, this shouldn't be a problem.
To connect to the proxy a use a local NTLM proxy which does the authentication to the ISA server and can be addressed as a http(s) and socks 5 proxy.
I hope this is enough information :D – Hendrik Bruinsma, on March 31, 2009 06:21
Hendrik Bruinsma reported a problem in The Cosmic Machine on March 30, 2009 18:12:
Unable to connect to services when behind a proxyI'm having problems using the Plugins when connected to the internet behind a proxy. The proxy settings have been set in the System Preferences, but when I log the proxy connections, the application doesn't make a connection to the proxy server.
I get the following error message in /var/log/system.log
----/var/log/system.log error message ----
Mar 30 18:31:34 mnemonic EventBox[229]: Network connection failed=Error Domain=EventBox Code=-3 Operation could not be completed. (EventBox error -3.)" (user info=(null))
----/var/log/system.log error message ----
Do the plugins connect to the internet using the System wide proxy? The RSS feeds are read perfectly though.
