Windows-1252When I send message to ping.fm from my Blackberry, the characters with accents are truncated and question marks take their place. If you can search posts made by myself, you'll have some great images exposing the problem. I found the encoding in which the email is sent by the Telus Blackberry servers :
text/plain; charset=Windows-1252
If you need additional informations, please don't hesitate to ask. If this is enough informations, could you pretty please support this character encoding so I can use accents again? :D
Thanks!!!

Daniel Santos pointed a solution on another thread. The problem seems to be in the encoding of the sent email. If I configure my Gmail account to send UTF-8 encoded characters, the Ping is fine elsewhere. The problem is when I send the emails from my Blackberry, which is where I use Ping.fm the most.
I will need to contact my Blackberry provider and ask how to change email encoding on outgoing email. Their online tool is ... lacking to stay in good taste.
I'll keep the folks updated on the progress.

How about using the email feature? On your profile page, just underneat the text box, you'll see a link named "Post by email". Just send an email to this address the same way you would in the text box and it will ping it to all your services. Be careful to keep this email address secret because anything sent to this email will be published on your ping.fm account thus all your services.
Just be aware that accented characters (à è é ê etc) are not well supported right now.
Let me know if it works out for you.
Cheers.

Don't be too hard on yourself. People make mistakes (and moreso READING mistakes) when they are busy. So to me it's a good sign. ;) Keep up the good work. – Vincent Fouquereau, on July 31, 2008 17:47

Yes Sean, the 5th word is "email" in all caps. ;) I did post by email. Hahaha.
I noticed you guys already fixed the ' char from being escaped (as in \' ) in the email posts.
Thanks for looking into the problem and answering so quickly. – Vincent Fouquereau, on July 31, 2008 17:37

Accented characters disappearingPosting to ping.fm by EMAIL, using accented characters (é, à, ô, ê, ç, ', etc) get messed up results. On all my services (Twitter, Identi.ca, Pownce and Tumblr), accented characters get lost, they disappear completely. In "Recent Post" on Ping.fm, they are replaced by a "?" square.
Original message is :
J'utilise cette mise à jour par courriel pour montrer les problèmes d'accents dans Ping.fm. C'est évidemment agaçant.

Tweets not posted from emailsTwitter via email not working. My Twitter credentials are good since tweeting from the Ping.fm site does work. However, when I email my secret address, the ping goes to other services (in my situation identi.ca) but does not end up on Twitter.
