Yes, FireFox and Safari do use Postbox. NetNewswire only allows mailing a link to the news item — not the contents of the news item.

Gmail labs has a nice app that changes the send button to "send & archive". I find this really handy.

Yes please! None of my apps (iCal, QuickBooks, NetNewswire, Etc) seems to want to use Postbox even though it is my default mail app.
