A comment on the question "delete podcasts" in Songbird:
I had this issue, and reverted back to using Juice as the podcatcher. When I did so, the only way I was able to get rid of the podcast was to wipe my entire library and re-import the media. This is fine, but be forewarned that you will lose some metadata such as playcount, ratings, etc... – honkerdown, on November 05, 2009 22:01-

I think vmos was taking a stab at sarcasm due to the naming of the release "Kayne".
I think that Songbird 1.0 was not necessarily a feature release, but certainly a stability release. Prior versions I tried had stability issues, and regardless of whatever features are in a release, if it is not stable it is not worth releasing.
Actually, I am really grooving Songbird both on Windows & OS X. It allows me to do things I cannot do with iTunes like sync to a non-Apple media player. It utilizes on two very powerful platforms, Mozilla & GStreamer. It offers open development of extensions.
From a philosophical point, it is open in ways iTunes never will be. I do not have to have an iTunes account in order to utilize all the features. – honkerdown, on October 21, 2009 16:04-

Might you be able to use something like Dropbox to keep the files in sync between the two? Especially if using the "watched folder" option?
Disclaimer: I don't us "manage my media" in Songbird, so your mileage may vary.

Have you installed the iPod Device Support extension/add-on?
I am not an iPod user, but maybe that will help?
A comment on the idea "Please, please! add support for airtunes" in Songbird:
I think it would be great also. I do not have Airtunes, but I would rather see Songbird get more core features to get it on par with iTunes features. Things like handling podcasts/podcatching, video, etc. Then someone should look at building Airtunes support into the core or as an add-on. – honkerdown, on October 20, 2009 18:38

And, unfortunately, podcast support is off of the road map for Kanye and "will be completed in a future release".
I wonder if you could use the FolderSync extension to move the files. Use a smartplay list for the genre "podcast", and then add the playlist to FolderSync to copy the files outside of the iTunes Music folder into an iPod folder. If you have Songbird set to watch the folder for changes, it should still get the podcasts and add them tot he library.
Maybe I'm missing what you are trying to do here, as I am not an iPod or iTunes user.
A comment on the question "podcatcher?" in Songbird:
Well, I am indeed on a non-Windows operating system, so no luck there. And yes, removing the file from the system or the song from the playlist removes it from the device. Not a huge issue by any means, just not perfect... :)
Personally, isn't podcast support more important than CD ripping? More & more music purchases are going to downloads, not purchasing CDs and ripping. – honkerdown, on October 20, 2009 16:59
Andrew Luecke's reply to "podcasts" was just promoted to the most useful! honkerdown and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
G'day,
Actually, Songbird doesn't have proper Podcast support yet. It was slated to be included in 1.4/Kanye (due october), but looks like its been bumped :(
That being said though, there may be a way to get them working (haven't tried yet). In terms of where to find some online though which are independent of ITMS, there are plenty of sites (try googling podcast in google).-

I don't know how important CD ripping is. Yes, it is a parity feature, but CD sales are declining in place of online sales, right? – honkerdown, on October 20, 2009 15:22-

I too am disappointed with the podcatching ability of Songbird. And am even more disappointed in them falling off the roadmap. :(
In the meantime, I am still using Juice to do the podcatching, and let Songbird suck the downloaded songs into the library. Juice is old & slow, but it works.
I have taken to using Foldersync to sync a podcast smart playlist to a directory on my non-Apple media device. The only issue is this is not a 2-way sync, but only Songbird=>to=>device sync, so I have to delete the podcasts from SB and then they will be deleted from the device.
Also, the great Audio Bookmarks extension is awesome for keeping track of where you are in a given episode.
