I agree, a view preference would be AWESOME. Until that is implemented, however, I gave a hack-ish solution on another thread; basically, you can edit the plist files easily to remove unwanted fields.
Quit DL2. Control-click the DL2 application icon, and select "Show Package Contents". Navigate to Contents > Resources > propertiesRelevantToMediumTypeMovie.plist
Just copy this file to your documents folder (to make a backup), then open the original in Text Edit and delete fields you don't want to see, then save. Voila, you have it the way you want (in an easy, safe, but unsupported way). You can do this to any of the "Medium Types" you want to.

Seriously, give editing the item properties file a chance; I just tested it with my own install, and didn't run into any problems (I'm on 2.3.2). There was a phase of DL2 where "Edition" didn't show up on movie entries, so I just added it here, and everything worked fine. Point being, I think you'll be safe to do this.
So, again:
Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > propertiesRelevantToMediumTypeMovie.plist
Just copy this file to your documents folder (to make a backup), then open the original in Text Edit and delete fields you don't want to see, then save. Voila, you have it the way you want (in an easy, safe, but unsupported way).-

It's a Snow Leopard issue, and several people encountered it:

You can fix it by upgrading to the 2.3 beta, as detailed both in the above link, as well as here:

While there is no preference in the software, there is a trick you can try to remove unwanted fields. I'm SURE this is not encouraged or supported, so make backups and proceed at your own risk.
If you go to the DL2 app file in your applications folder, control-click it and select "Show Package Contents." A new window should pop up, containing the folder "Contents." Open "Contents," and find the item template files, called "propertiesRelevantToMediumTypeBook.plist", "propertiesRelevantToMediumTypeMovie.plist", etc. Select the item type you want to change, and open it in TextEdit. You'll see an XML display of the various fields this item type can have; just delete the fields you don't want. Save it, making sure TextEdit doesn't try to save it as an RTF or something, and you should be good to go. You're literally changing the definition of the item type to not include some fields.
Again, BACKUP BEFORE TRYING THIS. If you update the software, you'll have to re-do this, as those files will get overwritten. And since this isn't sanctioned behavior, don't give the DM team crap if this breaks something. ;-)-

Hutson replied on October 05, 2009 00:23 to the question "Repeatedly Incorrect Titles Ruining My Life...sort of...not really, but help me anyway please!" in Delicious Monster:
Here's my understanding of the issue (anyone correct me if I get this wrong):
A lot of paperbacks have a UPC barcode on the back cover, instead of a traditional ISBN (which are unique to a title). Those UPCs are for retail establishments that don't focus on books, and may have equipment that can't understand ISBNs – think grocery stores. The problem is UPCs are often reused, and scanning them in any ISBN-reader (like DL2) will look for it as an ISBN code. So they will *never* give accurate results.
In these cases, the publisher should have the real, unique ISBN on the inside cover, as you've found. Scanning that should be accurate almost 100% of the time.-

Hutson replied on September 14, 2009 01:54 to the question "how do I edit an item on a smart shelf?" in Delicious Monster:
Interesting... have you tried hitting the "Edit" button (looks like a diagonal pencil) in the details pane? That's the general way to go into Edit mode - so I'm curious if that isn't working, or if it's only clicking on the title that isn't. I'm running the 2.3 beta, and I was able to edit details with either method (going into edit mode, or double-clicking the title), so I'm not sure what's affecting you.
Regarding the criteria issue, DL2 is actually reporting correctly. Your criterion is basically "'title' does not contain 'clarinet'", so the contents of the smart shelf do, in fact, match that criterion.-
