    Top Friends in sidebar.
Facebook and MySpace both have a top friends feature which is popular as is it lets a user draw attention to friends they feel deserve extra recognition, support. Can Twitter add a Top Friends feature to the sidebar?

Maybe you did nothing wrong in your opinion, that does not mean you didn't do wrong. Maybe you tweeted multiple adverts for your website though I doubt it if you had 1500 followers. I hope you get a reply, I suggest you check the Twitter Terms of Service to see if you broke the rules.

I resolved this problem using a Twitter mobile client software called Tiny Twitter.

Ian reported a problem in Twitter on May 15, 2009 11:56:

    Ian
Emergency tweet deletion - improve mobile site.
A couple of days ago I accidentally sent a text message to my 1000+ followers on Twitter, but which was meant to be just to my client. I could not get online at the time, so what could I do to delete the tweet?

I could get on Twitter mobile online but there I find no button to delete or replying to tweets, so through my phone I went to the main Twitter site to get to the delete button but still no joy as the button does not work when on a mobile.

At this point, I'm very concerned about information I mistakenly just made public. So what can I do?

Luckily for me, I found I had at sometime installed an app called Tiny Twitter and that it does support deleting tweets, so after about five minutes I managed to get it deleted it. Most people however do not have the information I have and would not know about this software.

Can Twitter please improve their mobile site? Thank you.

One idea might be to delete the last message sent using a Twitter command texted to Twitter.

    Request a tweet by SMS
A good feature would be the option of requesting a specific tweet be sent to me as a text message so that I can read it again without needing to go online, which is not always possible. This would be especially useful for services like @thequote who provide inspirational quotes direct to my phone but where some are far better than others.

Limit the number of tweets by SMS.
Users I want to get SMS updates from are important to me, but some tweet a little too much filling up my inbox and distracting me with too many text messages. I request the option of receiving a specified number of tweets per user at a set a frequency of my choice. One user important to me sends about 20 tweets per day, none are essential but they are relevant, I would like to limit it to their latest tweet every 24 hours. Twitterfeed has this exact feature for checking and sending RSS feed updates to Twitter.

This will obviously be attractive to the mobile networks and help get Twitter more mobile again.

For people paying to receive tweets by SMS, such a service could prove valuable and save them a lot of money where Twitter cannot afford to provide the service.

Ian replied on May 15, 2009 11:33 to the question "how do I turn off the Tweet sound from my cellphone SMS?" in Twitter:

    Ian
Kirtsin, you can't ask a question like this without at least providing a little information on how you receive the tweets.

You could receive them by text message in which case ask whoever your bought the mobile from. Alternatively maybe you receive the tweets using any one of several Twitter mobile applications each of which is different. Then there are the number of users you are set to receive SMS updates from, go to their profile and consider turning off updates or visit the notifications tab in Settings. Even stating which country you are in would help.

All this is why you have had no reply since your message almost a month ago.

Ian replied on May 09, 2009 23:18 to the question "Problems with downloading a background image." in Twitter:

    Ian
You mean upload don't you? You want to upload a new background picture to Twitter? Or are you downloading (saving) to your computer? There is no limit, I just think the code that processes the upload is not that good.

The image must not be animated and keep it a small file size if you can. Make sure you have it saved as a .jpg or .png or .gif in order to upload the new image. Windows in all its wisdom saves in the largest file size possible (.bmp) unless you change it!

I have this problem uploading a new image right now. The image is less than 100k and I've tried upload jpg and png versions, but all I get is "there was problem with your image".

Ian replied on May 05, 2009 10:50 to the question "Deleting unused accounts" in Twitter:

    Ian
I would like to set up a new service via Twitter but all the best names are taken, it does not require a persons name or a registered brand name. Names taken is fine were it not for the fact almost all the names (relevant words) are taken by people who have not tweeted for at least six months and who follow only one or two people. Why not add a 60 day expiration time on Twitter accounts? If you don't use it, you lose it. As it is, this devalues Twitter rather than adds value, I mean who wants to be "person1r32323"?!

I look forward to the suggested automated account expiration.

    Ian
Same here. I just searched for people with my surname. I tried while logged in to my account and from another account I run which does not list my surname. My parents account (which I manage) is on there but mine is not. The results are listed in order of popularity on Twitter and I have almost ten times the number of followers of the top placed person, but I'm not listed!

    Improve the site design.
The design of the website could be improved quite a bit.

The most useful pages I've found are also among the hardest to find, that is Help, Support and Feedback and they are in tiny text at the bottom of the page.

I have found a list of recognised words, but nothing more than a list, there is no usage guide.

Also the main tabs at the top are all images which at first glance is not obvious as to what they are. I suggest spreading tabs across a wider area and using JQuery to create an accordion effect whereby the full tab name in large text is shown when the mouse is over the tab.

I was just on the My Places tab, but rather than a clearly shown "Add Place" button, as demonstrated by Brightkite, there is instead quite small text saying "add" that is also similar colour to the background.

I agree with this and think it should be done via Twitter as it can then be done by text using a private (direct) message and through Twitter.com, various software applications, as well of course as sms text messages. For me this could be the difference between getting a premium account and not getting one.

Turn off Twitterfeed temporarily with a tweet.
I would like to be able to turn off Twitterfeed temporarily with a tweet, for example "d twitterfeed stop 2h" to prevent a tweet being sent for two hours, or "d twitterfeed stop 2p" so that Twitterfeed does not tweet the next two posts from RSS feeds. Perhaps there is some way to do all this specifying a particular feed.

Personally I get articles I Digg on digg.com sent to Twitter via Twitterfeed. Sometimes I don't want a post I Digg to be tweeted, either because I don't feel it should be or because too many Diggs have been sent to Twitter recently.
