Hi Jack, we did have an intermittent problem with our API earlier this problem, but everything should be back to normal as of ~11AM EST. I wonder if that's when you were having trouble with our Google Reader script, because that would certainly affect it.

Let us know if you're still seeing the same behavior.

Jay, thanks for letting us know of the problem. Out of curiousity, which IPhone RSS reader are you using? I'd like to double check that set timeouts on that app and verify it against our feeds.

Rob, the difference there is that the site web-site shows number of subscribers not counting PostRank itself. When our crawler comes along, it counts itself as a subscriber, hence the value is different.

Christian, we have a feed/info API if you're looking to retrieve the hash programatically. And if you just need to find it for yourself, in a one off manner, you can go to postrank.com type in the feed url and the page you'll be redirected to will contain the "feed hash" in the URL - it's the trailing bit of the url after postrank.com/feed/.... – Ilya Grigorik, on June 10, 2009 22:55

Joe, that's an interesting usecase. By default it will be a full two way sync, but you will be able to set the filtering to "all", which will default no postrank filtering. – Ilya Grigorik, on June 08, 2009 15:36

Jeff, thanks for the quick response. Didn't get a chance to verify with the old IP -- we just migrated from a dynamic IP to a static one, and I can confirm that it appears to work fine at the moment. We'll monitor our logs and report any problems.

fyi, you should see HEAD requests (with AideRSS headers) coming from: 75.101.156.169

Hey all, it appears that our PostRank bots are unable to resolve ow.ly urls due to being blocked / not allowed to issue HEAD requests. The hostname from which we're sending requests is:

ec2-67-202-28-213.compute-1.amazonaws.com

Any chance we can work something out to get our requests to come through?

1) Look into the timeouts -- shouldn't be the case, for sure!

2) Yep, you can still do that, ex for retrieving the RSS feed:
http://feeds.postrank.com/topic/{user hash}

For the API endpoint, just don't provide a tag (it's optional) and you should get the same results:

http://api.postrank.com/v2/topic/{user hash}/{tags}?appkey=postrank.com/example

3) Still working on subsbscriptions/feeds endpoint

Tom thanks for the suggestion! We have an alternative idea we're kicking around: sync with GoogleReader without having to explicitly move OPML files back and forth. I think that would cover your suggestion as well (although, we don't yet have an ETA on that feature)
