I have the opposite problem. I want POP and get IMAP by default.
Still waiting on a fix for the Google Apps issue too.
I'd really prefer to use the old add email account wizard or at least have the option to, perhaps with a Manual Setup button on the wizard and put it back into the create a new account wizard.
The way that it is, there is no room for errors, tweaks, adjustments, and/or corrections.

My Thunderbird knowledge isn't as great or as broad as it is with Firefox so I can only offer help when it pertains to something that I'm familiar with, or as in the case on STb, I'll do some research on an issue and offer a solution to a user but only if I'm confident in the suggested solution. If not, I refer them to someone who can provide proper and/or better help. Otherwise, I'd be a lot more active here.
I think that the risk of losing a Thunderbird user due to frustration over an issue is much greater than losing a Firefox user to one especially when a lot of people have never used a stand alone email client.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your patience and persistence.
A lot of people would have just given up and just used something else.
I've used Thunderbird since early 2005 and anything that I do know about it (which is far from everything) I learned through help forums and trial and error, and I still reach out for help. It's all been worth it.
This is from the developer of Mail Tweak about your particular issue.
"Yes, someone else using a Mac reported that too. A workaround is to filter the Config Editor for treefont, ensure that extension.mailtweak.treefont is true, and set extension.mailtweak.treefont.size to some number between 6 (small) and 24 (large)."
I've been trying to come up with an easier method for you to avoid having to go through the above recommendation, but so far no luck.
It really isn't difficult to follow. The only downside that I see is that you may have to go through the last step a few times to get the font size that you are most comfortable with.
You can save these instructions if you'd like
In Thunderbird go to,
Tools > Options > Advanced > General
Look for Advanced Configuration (at the bottom) and click on "Config Editor..."
Paste the following into the "Filter" field
extension.mailtweak.treefont
You'll see
extension.mailtweak.treefont default boolean false
Double click on that and the "Value" will be changed to true
If double clicking doesn't work, right click on that and select "Toggle"
This enables Mail Tweak's "Tree font" option
Under extension.mailtweak.treefont, the following should also be seen (if not paste it into the "Filter" field).
extension.mailtweak.treefont.size default integer 0
Right click on that and select "Modify"
Enter a number between between 6 (for small text) and 24 (for large text) and hit Ok.
Close all Thunderbird windows then restart Thunderbird and you should see the changes that you made.
Now comes the bummer part. If the tree font size isn't the size that you'd like, then you'll have to repeat step 2 until you get it to a size that you like, however, just paste in extension.mailtweak.treefont.size into the Filter field. You do not have to alter extension.mailtweak.treefont.
I surely hope that this works for you.

Hi,
I don't have access to a Mac (except to my Mac Classic) so it's difficult for me to duplicate your issue with installing Mail Tweak, and also because I too don't have any issues when trying to install it into Thunderbird on Windows.
The mailtweak-0.16.xpi file will more than likely be identical regardless of where you download it from (mozdev.org or a mirror).
There shouldn't be any difference between right clicking on the mailtweak-0.16.xpi file link then saving it, and dragging it to your desktop. They are basically just different addresses for the install location and, you can even drag that .xpi file link from Firefox directly onto the Thunderbird Add-ons manager to install it in Windows but I don't posses the technical knowledge to be sure about how all that works on a Mac, so try right clicking on the mailtweak-0.16.xpi link and select Save Link As...
Then, drag that file to the Thunderbird Add-ons manager.
Please report back whether that works or not.
If it doesn't work, then it MAY be a Mac - Mail Tweak issue but I'll try to confirm that by contacting the developer of Mail Tweak after we hear back from you.
Good luck!

Hi Ryan,
The easiest way that I've found to enlarge the inbox's text in Thunderbird requires an add-on. Adding some CSS to a userChrome.css file would probably be faster, but I don't know what controls the style of the inbox text (thread pane) and installing and configuring an add-on should be easier for a less technically inclined person (unless it's something like Stylish).
The add-on is Mail Tweak.
http://mailtweak.mozdev.org/
Once installed, instruct the person that you're helping out to go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions > Mail Tweak > Options.
Within options, scroll down to "Tree font", check the box next to it to enable it, move the slider to the desired text size (sample is shown), then check "Reload windows to apply changes now" > Ok.
Thunderbird will reload with the larger font sizes displayed in the folder pane, thread pane, and address book..
Furthermore in the Mail Tweaks options is the ability to adjust the font sizes and select the font family for received HTML and plain text messages. Look for Message font.
Mail Tweak has a lot of awesome features. I recommend it to all.
I also have Stylish installed and have some userstyles that covers other areas of Thunderbird's interface but I guess that you're only looking to enlarge the thread pane text.
I hope that this helps.

Sorry for not thanking you sooner, but thanks. That's helped out greatly.
Is there anyway that you know of to increase the window's text sizes, or because that's served from the Internet, no way?
I'm not sure of how far that Miro has detached from Mozilla's technology, but adding full page zoom capabilities (currently available in Firefox 3x) would be greatly welcomed.
And what of the future of Miro? Are there any plans to add add-ons capabilities?

Hey thanks for the wicked fast response.
I'll try the second method.
I've been experimenting with some of the files like in the classic.jar and userChrome.css to see if I can change the font sizes and families but so far no luck.
It should be possible considering that Miro is based on Mozilla technology and CSS hacks work in most to all of their products.
Is there a developer community?
Never mind on that, just found it on your web site.
Thanks again.
Ken Saunders asked a question in Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro) on March 10, 2009 01:53:
Bulk Removal of Feeds + Miro's UI Font SizeI just imported ALL of my Firefox bookmarks (all 8 trillion) into Miro while trying to import just an OPML file. I exported all from Firefox instead of just Livemarks (duh).
Is there an easier way to remove the items that I just added instead of just one at a time? I dug around in the Miro program folder and in my roaming folder to try and find out where the feeds are stored but no luck.
I'm not afraid to explore so feel free to provide technical details if necessary.
Also, is there any way to increase Miro's UI fonts?
I have pretty poor eyesight and could use some help on that as well. Perhaps theme customization?
Thanks from a fellow Mass resident.
Ken Saunders replied on February 02, 2009 17:39 to the question "How do I stack Vivaty items in My Scene?" in Vivaty:
Thanks Justin.
I really run Firefox pretty hard. It's tweaked and customized quite a bit and far from Firefox in its default state plus I have 75 add-ons installed (66 enabled) in my primary profile and even that fluctuated daily and it's amazing that Firefox still runs as great as it does.
I'll try Vivaty in a new and clean Firefox profile to rule out any conflicts that my add-ons and configuration might be having with Vivaty. I don't mind clearing the cache but I don't like clearing cookies even though I should. Saving them saves a lot of time when revisiting sites and selectively clearing them would take hours.
By the way, I'm talking about running Vivaty Scenes from Vivaty's web site not the Facebook app. I'd imagine that running Vivaty Scenes from its site is much better considering that all of the Facebook noise isn't loaded and run along with Vivaty Scenes, plus I can use true full screen from the Vivaty site, a must for anyone using Vivaty.
Thanks again and I'm wondering, if stacking is called parenting, what would happen if I parent the puppies?
Gee, that sounds creepy no matter how you read it. Please disregard that. :)

How do I stack Vivaty items in My Scene? How do I stack items? Such as, placing a PC or lamp etc on a desk or table top?
Also, PLEASE add an export/import settings feature. My first experience with Vivaty was pretty poor. I enjoy the program but after 45+ minutes of bugs while customizing such as the customization options not responding, the customization window being dropped out of site and not resetting, server down issues and the worst of it, all of my customizations were wiped out after the server went down, well, I was about ready to uninstall the Firefox add-on, remove the program from my PC, and delete all Vivaty bookmarks. I realize that Vivaty is in beta, but you'd expect that at least all of the time that you spend working on your scene, that your settings would be preserved. Since the site has the ability to save settings, then Vivaty should offer an export/import settings feature otherwise, I see many people turning away and unnecessarily because Vivaty is really quite cool.
Again though, how do I stack items?
Thanks for your time

BugsImport settings etc from Thunderbird into Postbox isn't working.
404 page for release notes.
Just thought that I'd mention this although it may already be known.
By the way, do you have a Bugzilla account? Not a bad idea if you don't.
Ken Saunders asked a question in Songbird on November 30, 2008 20:20:
Promoting SongbirdPlease clarify for me what the current official Songbird logo is.
Is it the orange bird mascot (does it have a name?)?
Is it the black bird mascot (does it have a name?)?
Is it the white bird as seen on getsongbird.com?
And also, is the egg now obsolete?
I want to be sure that I'm using the official logo when promoting Songbird and speaking of which, whatever happened to the community Songbird graphics page?
I don't see anything on getsongbird.com that encourages people to promote Songbird. I find that to be really odd and not too wise.
Thanks
Ken Saunders replied on October 19, 2008 02:08 to the question "Um, what is or are "plates"?" in Yahoo!:
I don't understand what "circular definintion" means.
If you go to the top of the page that we are on and click on the tab that says "20 Products & Services" all of the other products listed under "Yahoo! Products & Services" > "Made by" are established and legitimate products so why is "plates from Yahoo!" even listed at all if it isn't anything at all?
And if it isn't anything, then why when you click on "plates" on that page do you end up in this conversion that isn't going anywhere? Do I not exist like plates doesn't?
You can clearly see "plates" listed in the URL itself.
http://getsatisfaction.com/yahoo/prod...
I'm well aware of the fact that a search for yahoo plates doesn't return anything of much value, that's why I asked the question that started this topic to begin with.
Are you an official Yahoo rep?
Whether you are or are not perhaps you should just find a way to remove "plates" from the listing of Yahoo! Products & Services.

Ken Saunders replied on October 19, 2008 00:52 to the question "Um, what is or are "plates"?" in Yahoo!:
Look in the right hand column on this page under "Products & Services". It says "plates".
Or here http://getsatisfaction.com/yahoo
"Yahoo! Products & Services",
"plates from Yahoo!"
