The new ability for users to edit or delete posts is wonderful, but I'm still encountering a bug or two. One very minor thing is that where I'm given the option to edit or delete, there is no space between "edit" and "delete." That's a purely aesthetic issue.
A bigger issue is that urls are still not parsing correctly if I put a period or parenthetical or anything else directly after the url without putting in a space. With the new editing option, this isn't a huge problem because I can always fix it.
However, when I click edit and go in to fix it, the html coding that has occurred in order to turn the url into a link doubles and creates a link that is even more incorrect than the first one. In order to fix that, I have to erase all the html tags until I am back to the simple url and then add a space before the period that was causing the problem in the first place.

Hey Isaac, still waiting for a reply to my question about where I might find the setting you spoke about above. Thanks. – ipostupost, on April 09, 2008 17:30

I too have noticed the time-out issue recently. It seems that most comments post immediately, only appearing to time out. I tend to get the perpetually revolving recycling icon, but when I refresh the page before it stops, there's my comment already posted. I think only one of my comments has actually timed out. – ipostupost, on April 09, 2008 17:28

I agree that the ability to post images would be awesome and I think way ahead of most other comment services. – ipostupost, on April 09, 2008 17:25

Hey Isaac, it's no problem. I figured something was up because you guys usually respond really quickly (I'm interested in the big release...where can I read about that?).
Anyway, when looking at the settings tab for my blog, I actually cannot find a place to change the settings to "posts without comments." I feel like I've seen this option before, but maybe only when I was importing my comments from blogger. Am I missing something?

Hey Isaac,
I'm still waiting on a reply to my question about what will happen when I uninstall Intense Debate. I need to know whether I will lose the comments that have been made through Intense Debate (especially since you suggested that I 1) Not export my comments because then they might be doubled in blogger, and 2) Delete my Intense Debate account before I reinstall.
I'm really enjoying Intense Debate (particularly the threading of comments), but I do want my missing comments back and I would be glad to do some research for you guys as to why they might not have imported correctly. I just don't want to mess up what I have going thus far with Intense Debate.
Also, a strange thing has been happening recently where the comments section does not load correctly and the little bars where people's names are located are strange colors and usually broken up by a weird graphic of some kind. It is usually fixed when I refresh the page. I'll take a screen shot of it if it happens again.

Ok, I might finally get around to uninstalling ID sometime soon and then reinstalling it but only using it on new comments. When I do this, will I lose all the comments that were made while I have been using ID? I don't want that to happen.
Also, you said to delete the ID account. Will that mean I'll have to make an entirely new one when I reinstall?
ipostupost replied on March 27, 2008 17:48 to the question "HTML code in comments?" in IntenseDebate:
Let's say a thread had started on a comment and then the original poster deletes his post. I think it'd be necessary to have some sort of anchor to keep all the other posts up. For instance, the deleted post could be replaced with a note that says, "this post was deleted by the author," which is how blogger works. It makes for a fairly ugly commenting page if several people have deleted their comments.
So, I guess my opinion is that people should have a limited amount of time to edit or delete posts and then after that time, that right would be reserved only by the blog administrator.
Also, I noticed on my blog that if somebody posts a simple "__.com" link without adding "http://www," it does not parse out as a url. Is it possible to make those become links as well?
ipostupost replied on March 26, 2008 19:15 to the question "HTML code in comments?" in IntenseDebate:
Great! Some basic text formatting would be nice. Then I don't think the html stuff would be as necessary.
I think being able to edit/delete a comment for a short time would be a really great addition as well. Is there any particular reason that you don't want people to be able to delete their posts later? I understand that they are building reputation points, and that deleting posts might mess with that system.
If people are able to preview their posts for a little bit and then edit them, that might be sufficient. Blogger allows users to delete their own comments at any time (I think), which I think is a nice option in case you really want to erase whatever you said.
ipostupost replied on March 26, 2008 16:27 to the question "HTML code in comments?" in IntenseDebate:
I would definitely second the proposition of allowing the use of html in comments, maybe just simple tags like those that blogger allows. It would be really nice if you could combine the parsing ability with html. That way a link would be functional whether someone uses html or not.
Another bug I noticed is that when I enter a url into the comments field, if I follow the url with a period, the period is tacked onto the end of the url. An example can be found in the comments on this page: http://ipostupost.blogspot.com/2008/0.... Look for Kaitlyn's second post (in the first one, she tried to use html).
I will probably start another topic about this if there is not one already, but how about giving users who are not signed up for Intense Debate the ability to delete their own posts?
ipostupost replied on March 26, 2008 16:18 to the problem "Why are some of my imported comments failing to appear and why are some of them repeated?" in IntenseDebate:
Hi Isaac,
That's a good idea to only use Intense Debate for new posts. That way I can keep the old ones and still have all the benefits that ID provides. What do you suggest for getting my old comments back. Should I export or uninstall?
If I export them, would it just be sending over the comments that have been collected by Intense Debate? Cause in that case it might be necessary to uninstall so that I can have access to all the old comments.
Before doing this, do you have any suggestions for backing up my blog/posts/comments in the event of something strange happening? I'll save the template, but and everything, but I want to make sure I don't lose posts.
And yes, I'd be happy to let you know if I find any common thread amongst the missing comments to see what cause them to fail at importing.
ipostupost replied on March 26, 2008 03:02 to the problem "Why are some of my imported comments failing to appear and why are some of them repeated?" in IntenseDebate:
Hey Isaac,
Thanks for fixing the duplicates. That's great. I'm really disappointed with the loss of the comments though. It looks like more than half of the comments that were previously there did not make it through the import. I don't think any of them had special characters, but some might have had html code. Though, I doubt that all of the missing ones did.
My "edit posts" page on blogger still lists the correct number of comments. It makes me wonder what would happen if I uninstalled Intense Debate. Would my old comments reappear? Then we might be able to examine them better to see why they didn't transfer over. As it is right now, I can't even look at the ones that are not on Intense Debate.
I definitely want to continue using Intense Debate, but I really need all of the comments there due to the nature of the blog as a community art project. It's a little ridiculous to say, but it really is like tiny pieces of art have been lost in limbo. If I could find a way to access them, I'd even be willing to repost them myself through Intense Debate. What do you think about the possibility of retrieving the lost comments?

Thanks, Isaac.
In that case, I'm not sure it's totally clear that one can sign up by checking off that box. I understand that the choice of language for that checkbox is probably important to your company, so I guess my only suggestion would be to have it say "Sign up for Intense Debate to Claim Your Comments," which is much wordier and in the 2nd person rather than the 1st.
ipostupost replied on March 25, 2008 16:32 to the problem "Why are some of my imported comments failing to appear and why are some of them repeated?" in IntenseDebate:
Hey Isaac,
I may need your help with finding a way to show you that the numbers aren't matching up. You're right, the numbers do match up between the Comment # count and the permalinked comments, but the issue is that apparently not all of my comments imported from Blogger. For instance, for this post: http://ipostupost.blogspot.com/2008/0..., I currently have 6 comments in Intense Debate, but I should have at least 11 based on the number I can see when I manage my comments on blogger. Unfortunately, I can't view the missing comments because when I click on any comments links in blogger, I only see the Intense Debate comments.
ipostupost replied on March 25, 2008 15:37 to the problem "I want to remove the "Login" and "Subscribe" links. My visitors say they are disturbing." in IntenseDebate:
Hi Isaac,
Have you considered having a login link as part of the commenting system that allows people to create a new Intense Debate account?
I may be wrong, but it seems that when one visits my blog without an Intense Debate account, they would have to click on the Intense Debate icon (and thus be directed away from where they wanted to comment) in order to create one. It doesn't seem very intuitive. As far as I can tell, the current "login" link only allows people with existing accounts to sign in.
Also, when one tries to vote without an account, one gets this message: "Easy Tiger...You must be logged in to vote." It'd be awesome if that little tag that pops up could have a "login" link and a "create account" link.
Thanks,
Jordan

Thanks for getting back to me, Isaac. The blog url is ipostupost.blogspot.com. I went into intense debate and started deleting duplicates. It looks like it will take a while, but if that's the only way, then I will continue.
When I said "old blogger" I just meant they were comments that were posted on my blog before I installed Intense Debate. I believe I use a new blogger template, as I've only had it for about 2 months.
The issue that I'm still encountering that caused me to import my comments several times in the first place is that while the number of comments is correct in the "comments [#]" link, when I click on it only a small number (about 1/3) of the comments actually show up.
Thanks, Jordan.
ipostupost reported a problem in IntenseDebate on March 23, 2008 23:50:
Why are some of my imported comments failing to appear and why are some of them repeated?I imported old blogger comments into ID 3 times because they did not seem to come through correctly, but now I notice that the same comment is repeated 3 times on some of my pages. I assume this is my mistake for being impatient, but now I'm wondering how to correct it.
The initial problem I encountered was that not all of the comments were appearing on my blog. After waiting for a little while after importing, the comments [#] link began to work, but when I click on it, I only see about half of the comments that are supposed to be there.
