Hey Wim,
I am VERY close to release something like Aero Snap called Cinch. Cinch will do Left, Right, and Full Screen.
However, I actually explored the "Grid with modifier key" idea first, and I have a very capable prototype I could send you if you would prefer to still have all of SizeUp's features in grid form. You can contact me here http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/con...

Hey Murphy,
Just did a little investigation into Finder's AppleScript dictionary, and it looks possible to set manage the following with FinderMinder:
1) Arrangement
2) Background color
3) Background picture
4) Icon Size
5) Label position
6) Show icon preview
7) Show item info
8) Text size
So it would certainly be possible to do what you're asking. However, to be honest with you, FinderMinder is way down on my priority list right now. I have a bunch of projects that are calling my attention, so I can't say when I might get to this feature, but rest assured, it has been noted on my feature list.

Irradiated Software replied on November 17, 2009 22:41 to the problem "Left/Right split isn't sized correctly with OmniFocus" in Irradiated Software:
Hey Fraser,
Thank you for the report. I just gave it a try and found that OmniFocus has a very large minimum size to its windows (878px wide!). If you try to resize the window manually, you'll notice that it wouldn't go any smaller. That means, you will need a monitor with at least 1756px wide to put two OmniFocus windows side by side.
The annoying thing is, SizeUp has no way of asking a window for its minimum or maximum size before hand. I just have to resize the window and see what happens.
It's certainly possible to detect issues like this, but the more difficult task is presenting the issue to a user without being annoying or invasive... any thoughts?
Irradiated Software replied on November 14, 2009 21:15 to the question "Bisect UI Ideas" in Irradiated Software:
Hey Jonathan,
1) At least for the short term, I don't see Bisect becoming part of SizeUp, but that doesn't mean it can't become a finish product. I believe I'll keep it as its own extension.
2) I'm not sure I follow the "dot" idea, can you give an example?
3) Ah yes, two meta keys. We might have to experiment, but it sounds like 1/3s would work. This might just take the form of a pre-determined set of sizes, similar to lukaszkorecki suggestion in the original thread, first press gives you 66%, second gives you 33%, etc.
Overally, I'm glad that Bisect has worked so well for you. What amazes me is how simple the code is, since the idea is so elegant, and yet it can already do 80% of what SizeUp does.

Irradiated Software replied on November 14, 2009 10:24 to the question "Bisect UI Ideas" in Irradiated Software:
Hey Jonathan,
Outstanding writeup. I like the meta key idea as it reduces the chance of collisions with shortcut keys in other applications.
It's also possible to show a nice GUI overlay (similar to Quicksilver) with a summary of the keys while resizing.
Now, while this is an outstandingly simple and elegant approach to the problem of window management, may users won't be able to replace SizeUp with it. The use of partitions and margins in SizeUp become confusing when applied to Bisect. Also, a very frequent request is for 3 column, which again, isn't possible with Bisect as it stands.
I'm still not sure how to address these problems. My current approach has been to create a bunch of separate experimental applications (like Bisect), but how do I bring these to market? I've thought about having one universal license which works with all these applications. I brought up most of these concerns in the last thread, so I don't want to reiterate them here.
If we look at Microsoft's approach with Win7's Aero Snap, it only offers Full Screen, Left Half, and Right Half. This probably works for 80% of the users out there (single monitors with <= 1680x900 resolution). Multi-monitors and large resolution exacerbate the window management problem. This falls into a class of Power Users, all who want a different approach to window management, based on their prior experiences. Just thinking out loud.

Wow Jonathan, that bisect idea is really really good.
Right now, I'm in a hard place. I receive wonderful feature requests like this, but I can't possibly accommodate them all and keep SizeUp usable. I could try to bang out a bunch of "experiments" that feature these ideas, but with so many experiments, it's difficult to polish any of them in order to release a finished product (and make a living). I just wanted to share some of my struggles when it comes to accepting features.

To do multi-monitor on the Mac Mini, you could get a displaylink based USB monitor: http://www.displaylink.com/product_re...
I recommended this to another customer and they are quite happy with it. – Irradiated Software, on November 12, 2009 17:20

Ok, I decided to try the dumb AppleScript solution first. You can download the compiled script from here: http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/fil...
1) Unzip LaunchSizeUpAfterDelay.zip
2) Place the resulting LaunchSizeUpAfterDelay.app in your Applications Folder
3) Manually add LaunchSizeUpAfterDelay.app to your Login Items (System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items)
Leave the regular SizeUp startup item there (leave the "Start SizeUp Automatically at Login" preference checked in the SizeUp preferences).
What's going to happen is, after you login, SizeUp will start like it usually does, and its menu item will end up somewhere in the mix. After 5 minutes, the LaunchSizeUpAfterDelay script will run and restart SizeUp, making it the last item in the list. You could modify the script in order to always loop/restart SizeUp every 5 minutes, which would make sure it's always first, but I noticed the script takes about 1% of my CPU just waiting... very annoying.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you think we should try something else.
