Issuu FAQ replied on October 27, 2009 13:28 to the question "Guide: Exporting from InDesign to Issuu-ready PDFs" in Issuu:
Print and web are two different things. So it's a good idea to optimize your PDFs for the web before you upload to Issuu. This will ensure the highest possible image quality and the most efficient and error free rendering of vector objects.
This means that image PPI (pixels per inch) should be 150, both for color and grayscale images, and that complex vector objects must be simplified or flattened (as bitmap). Also note that InDesign effects such as drop-shadows, glow, special strokes, or transparency may not be fully supported.
Files uploaded to Issuu must be less than 500 pages and 100 MB.

Indesign export settings
Depending on your content and Indesign version these are suggested guidelines.
1. Select File > Adobe PDF Presets > Define
2. Select 'New...' and set Preset Name to "Issuu Export Preset" and Compability: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
3. 'General' settings
* 'Optimize for Fast Web View': Enabled
* Export Layers: 'Visible layers'
* Include 'Hyperlinks': Enabled
4. 'Compression' settings
* Set Color, Grayscale and Monochrome images to 'Bicubic Downsampling to 150 pixels per inch for images over 150 pixels per inch.
*Compress Text and Line Art: Enabled
5. Save your new Issuu Export Preset and use it to save publications as PDF.
6. Upload to Issuu. You can select to upload as Private until you are ready to publish.
Troubleshooting
- If a page is too heavy to render on Issuu, replace vector graphics for that page with bitmap.
- If your file is above 100 MB try lowering the PPI resolution for images.
- For documents over 500 pages, split into multiple volumes.

Issuu FAQ replied on September 09, 2009 08:38 to the question "The Definitive Guide: Troubleshooting Internet Explorer and other browsers" in Issuu:
Issuu works with all major browsers: Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer. However you may still experience problems if your computer or browser is not set up correctly.
Please test the problem on a different computer, network or browser. If you don't see the problem there, it's related to your own computer. Here is how you fix the problem:
Troubleshooting browsers
1. Make sure you're connected to the Internet and that the connection is stable.
2. Make sure you have the latest Flash player. Go here to update: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
3. Check that your browser's privacy/security settings are not restricting use of Issuu. If you are on an office network this is often controlled by a system administrator, so ask him/her for assistance.
4. Make sure you don't have any browser plugins or other software installed that may interfere with Issuu. This includes ad/Flash blockers, adult content or similar censoring filters etc. Note that these kinds of software may also be controlled by a system administrator if you are on an office network.
5. If you are on a Linux or open source system you may experience problems. Please explore our support forum for tips or try searching online for help. We cannot test all browser/system combinations in the world, but generally we work perfectly on most popular open source setups.
Please share more tips below.
