The new iPlayer Wii Channel is brilliant!I just downloaded the new dedicated iPlayer channel for my Wii and was watching Top Gear within seconds, with no judders, stutters or glitches. Excellent work!

Nick Jackson reported a problem in University of Lincoln on October 20, 2009 15:39:
Seating/displays in computing labs are bad for posture. At the moment the seating in the computing labs (A, B and C) are in a variety of states ranging from acceptable to falling apart. Not all seats are adjustable, some adjustments do not hold and not all seats have good back support.
In addition, the monitors in the labs generally have poor adjustability and are too low for 'ideal' working (the University's own H&S policy says the top of the monitor should be level with the eyes - this is seldom the case.

People ignoring timetabling for rooms.I've just tried to get into a room which has been timetabled for a Society event, only to find it occupied by a lecturer! It shouldn't be up to people to enforce timetabling.
Could timetables perhaps be posted on every room, or people told to always check room availability beforehand?

Let me print from my own computer.I'd like to be able to print to the University printers from my own laptop or desktop computer.
Nick Jackson replied on September 28, 2009 09:45 to the problem "It takes far too long to log into the computers" in University of Lincoln:
I've just popped into Lab B this morning, and have to say for the first day of term it's abysmal. Of the nominal 60 available computers I'd guess no more than 30 are actually operational, and when I found one which was I clocked my login time (not including boot) at over 2 minutes - this with three people in the lab.
I've got a workshop in Lab B on Wednesday 30th - will it all be back in shape by then?
A comment on the idea "Remove the '15 minute login' warning dialog in the Library hot desks." in University of Lincoln:
The problem with moving the box out of the way is you then lose any indication of how much time you have left until you get booted from the machine. – Nick Jackson, on September 24, 2009 08:41
Nick Jackson shared an idea in University of Lincoln on September 23, 2009 14:15:
Remove the '15 minute login' warning dialog in the Library hot desks. The 15 minute warning box which appears on the GCW hot desks (ground floor) is incredibly annoying and cannot be removed. It inevitably gets in the way of getting work done, and in some cases wastes valuable seconds moving it out of the middle of the window.
A single warning on log-in, then a 10, 5, 2 and 1 minute warning balloon from the systray would be more than sufficient.
Nick Jackson replied on September 11, 2009 12:26 to the problem "The Student Union charged me £60 to attend the graduation ball and I'm really dissatisfied" in University of Lincoln:
I know that there were some Ticketline issues which may have caused a slowdown on entry, but for everything else I'd suggest contacting the SU directly, or if you aren't satisfied after that then your Course Rep will be able to help you out with what you need to do to raise it at something such as the AGM.
I personally was not impressed with the Snowflake 'Ball' either, and think that perhaps the SU needs to get an improved grip on what the word "ball" entails in this context (as in, it's not just an expensive club night).-

A comment on the idea "Standardise on an open document format." in University of Lincoln:
The key reason I mentioned PDF (I did consider RTF as an alternative) is that it is a widely (albeit not universally) supported publishing format, rather than a 'document' format. If a document needs to still be edited then obviously something like RTF (or ODF for preference, it can be set as the default format in Office 2007) would still be required, but if a document is to be considered 'published' as many things are (policies, forms, learning materials for reference etc) then PDF or an equivalent format should be used.
Incidentally, PDF is now an open standard as of 2008 (ISO32000), with OS X and most desktop Linux distros sporting in-OS support (and potentially Windows 7 as well, but no promises). – Nick Jackson, on September 09, 2009 08:11
