When is the next eventWhen is the next event?
Jadzia replied on April 01, 2008 15:43 to the question "Can I hold an event in a office, union hall, church or school ?" in Operation Democracy:
Thanks for your generous offer to host a houseparty. Because MoveOn.org is a Federal PAC it may jeopardize your organization’s tax status for you to host one of our events. While we are unable to provide legal advice pertaining to each individual situation, we can provide the general guidelines and mention that there are some circumstances where it might be okay, but you'd need to work with the organization in question and feel comfortable that the legal issues are covered.
Important Legal Note: MoveOn.org Political Action is a political organization. Events organized in conjunction with MoveOn.org Political Action are considered partisan under the law. As a result:
Nonpartisan not-for-profit organizations such as schools, libraries, and churches, should not donate staff time or resources (including rooms) in conjunction with MoveOn.org Political Action events. This could be seen as an in-kind contribution under the law, which could put the organization's tax status in jeopardy.
Corporations should not donate staff time or resources (including rooms) in conjunction with MoveOn.org Political Action events. This could be seen as an in-kind contribution under the law, and Political Action Committees are absolutely banned from receiving any donations whatsoever from corporations.

Can I hold an event in a office, union hall, church or school ?I'm hosting a house party at my office, union hall, church, school, is that okay?
Jadzia replied on April 01, 2008 15:37 to the question "Can I host my event on a different day?" in Operation Democracy:
For maximum impact we've planned all events to occur on the same date and that is the one we'll be publicizing for our hosts. You're welcome to register an event for a different date but you'll need to mark it "PRIVATE" and send out invitations on your own. You'll still be able to access our materials and tools but MoveOn won't be able to promote your event for you.
Thanks for all you do.

OpDem on MoveOn homepage? Why isn't Operation Democracy advertized on the MoveOn home page? It seems like that would help me get new people on my council.
