James Mayes replied on September 16, 2009 16:15 to the idea "No Ads Still??" in YouData:
Hello everyone,
We do have ads flowing through the system. Not everyone matches the ads at all times. For instance, unless you live in a particular set of zip codes in Texas, you will not receive an ad from a regional sandwich shop. Unless you are a mother of boy in a particular area, you might not receive an ad currently running. This is how advertisers gain value from YouData -- their ability to target very explicit demographics/geographies from the MeFile population. Consider the size of our user-base. If a company wanted to target all females in the United States that could cost them tens of thousands of dollars for an ad campaign that will last a few hours. Instead, they use the system to target VERY specific subsets of the female population. It is a much more effective spend than than spending thousands of dollars on banner ads that reach males and females with no potential connection to their product whatsoever.
Here is a testimonial from a recent advertiser who ran a very small campaign with us.
http://paperlocket.typepad.com/studio...
She spent a small amount of money to generate the exact traffic of the profiled consumer that she wanted. It's very effective.
Of course we'd love for everyone to have a significant number of advertisements every day and depending on where you live and what your MeFile indicates, you might. We are working to sale ads all over the US.
All that said, we seem to have picked up a number of users from various survey sites and work-at-home sites. So I would like to mention that we are not a paid-survey site. Nor are we a work-at-home site. We are an advertising network. We do not encourage our users to repetitively visit youdata.com in the hopes of receiving an ad offer. Instead, we would encourage you to visit sites that have the youdata adget in place (like http://www.kirtsy.com or http://www.thebloggess.com) and throughout the course of your normal day's web browsing you will be presented with paid banner advertisements from time-to-time. This is in contrast to every banner ad network out there where you make $0 for your attention. Our model allows the site owner to make money, you to make money, and the advertiser to reach a very targeted group. There simply aren't enough targeted advertisements for you that will sustain repeated visits on a daily basis (maybe one day there will be). We so strongly believe this that we are considering removing the standalone ad player and the adgets page from yoduata.com proper and replacing it with a roll of sites that contain the adget. This will help enforce the message that we are an ad network and not a survey/work site.
I hope that makes sense.
A comment on the idea "No Ads Still??" in YouData:
YouData is a marketplace. YouData only receives revenue when an advertisement is delivered to a targeted consumer. Merely having a customer that receives no ads is of no benefit to us whatsoever. – James Mayes, on September 16, 2009 15:22
James Mayes replied on September 03, 2009 01:44 to the question "referral payment?" in YouData:
Please see my previous response. You have been paid in full for all transactions by your referrals. Please read the program details on the Referral Tab. In particular this paragraph:
What's in it for me?
On top of our never-ending gratitude, we will pay you up to $1.00 for each new MeFile you refer. Specifically, for each of the first 100 times one of your referrals is paid for their attention, you receive a $0.01 referral bonus.
Only one of your referrals is fully activated and that one referral has accepted 24 offers to-date.

You have been paid in full for all transactions by your referrals. For a refresher, login to youdata at http://youdata.com and visit the Referral Program tab. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the suggestion shootingstars.
Payments happen automatically every Friday. We are working on a "pay me now" feature but it's not yet available.
I suppose it could be a little more clear through inclusion in the FAQ since the other two places it is mentioned on the site are available AFTER account creation! I will add your suggestion early next week, so thanks for that.
In the meantime, for everyone else, details of the payment process are on the housekeeping page where you input your PayPal address:

As well as in the Terms of Service that each user accepts:

James Mayes replied on July 09, 2009 16:32 to the problem "Cannot activate account with text code" in YouData:
The cellular activation code is a 4 digit number and should be clearly indicated by a message (indicating From:, Subject:, etc). It sounds like you are viewing the header that some carriers put in front of the message. Can you save and/or open the text message to reveal the contents? What carrier and device are you using?
James Mayes replied on June 29, 2009 03:30 to the problem "unable to log in at main page or to ads" in YouData:
Hi tonya,
I'm sorry to say that you appear to have been disabled by our new automated fraud prevention process. I took a look at all of the accounts that were associated with "young01" and it appears as though all of your accounts were disabled.
YouData currently allows two people per household with the additional consideration that each person must access his/her account only.

Hi Eva,
I just merged your question into this topic as I think it probably has the answer you are looking for. Trae did a pretty good job of explaining things.

James Mayes posted an update in YouData on June 17, 2009 19:08:
Attention Market Update - 6/15/09Hello MeFiles!
From time to time, we'll be posting updates like this on how things are progressing in this free-market experiment called YouData. Below is the first report from the lab. After you give it a read, please take some time to leave your questions, suggestions, and comments. We want to hear what you're thinking, and what we can do to improve the system. Your feedback is taken very seriously. Thanks!
First, we want to sincerely thank you all for your support, feedback, curiosity, and mostly your patience, as YouData's little attention marketplace gets its legs. We are THRILLED at the response the system is getting from consumers, advertisers, and content providers such as web sites and blogs. It's still early in the game, and we have a long way to go, but so far it looks like this thing just might work!

James Mayes replied on June 17, 2009 18:55 to the idea "Small adgets for blogs." in YouData:
Hi Natalie,
Thanks for the idea. We have a new version of the ad player that will launch shortly. It is initially much smaller (width and height) and once selected will expand over web content temporarily while things take place. It looks great and will work with Wordpress and other blogs straight away.
We call it the "Slim 5 stack" so stay tuned.
James
James Mayes replied on June 17, 2009 18:49 to the idea "Help Tab" in YouData:
Your wish is my command. I present to you a new Help page on the static portion of our web site. It's the "Help" tab you see when not yet logged in. Here is the direct link:
http://www.youdata.com/help.html
We are now going to integrate this into the application itself so that you will see it when logged in as well so wait a bit longer for that.
Let me know if you have a question/issue that you think needs addressing in the current FAQ. It is decidedly consumer (MeFile) focused and does not include FAQs for bloggers or advertisers -- that's next.
Take care!
James
