James [bkkeepr] set one of James [bkkeepr]'s replies as an official response to "Entity reference problem in API XML" in bkkeepr
James [bkkeepr] replied on January 16, 2009 11:58 to the problem "Entity reference problem in API XML" in bkkeepr:
Thanks for this - you're right, and I've fixed this.
Authors, titles, and notes (bookmarks) in the XML output are now processed with htmlspecialchars so:
* '&' (ampersand) becomes '&'
* '"' (double quote) becomes '"' when ENT_NOQUOTES is not set.
* ''' (single quote) becomes ''' only when ENT_QUOTES is set.
* '<' (less than) becomes '<'
* '>' (greater than) becomes '>'
Please feel free to check this now works!

Thanks for the poke. Something happened at the end of last week - Twitter was behaving oddly, but I don't want to blame them, might have been us - and bkkeepr choked. I've forced it to start over, and it's up again, although if you posted on the 9th or 10th, you might want to check your records.
Many thanks for flagging this up, and apologies for any inconvenience.

James [bkkeepr] replied on January 06, 2009 19:19 to the idea "Determine twitter location to update book details" in bkkeepr:
This is a pretty good idea, except that Twitter users don't use the location feature consistently (e.g. 'the universe', 'macclesfield', '13.23453425, -34.345235'), and location doesn't actually translate that well to language (e.g. just because someone's in London doesn't mean they're not German, reading German books).
I want to improve this service for non-English language users, and sadly a better way to do this will probably be to set up bkkeepr.de and the like - rather than trying to combine the services - but this is beyong my expertise and workload at the moment. I'm marking it as 'under consideration' for the moment so it stays on my nominal to-do pile, but honestly don't hold your breath.
Also more likely is to allow users to update their own book titles and authors if they're marked unknown - this is rather nearer the top of the pile...
Sorry you're having problems, and hope you continue to use the service.

James [bkkeepr] replied on January 06, 2009 16:01 to the idea "A possible way to share books" in bkkeepr:
It's a nice idea, but personally I don't like updates like this - at least, not ones I can't opt into/out of, so it's not going to appear until we develop proper user preferences - which may be coming, so I'll add it to the ideas pile.
More likely, which I've been trying to work on for a while, is checking your existing twitter friends and letting you know if any of them use bkkeepr too - but need a bit of time to implement this...
Generally, making bkkeepr more visible on Twitter is a big goal for the next evolution, so thanks for the idea.

Looking at the records it appears that you started and finished this book several times, tweeting both the ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 several times on December 15th and 16th (see screenshot).
Bkkeepr is supposed to parse all ISBNs and store them as ISBN-13s. However, it looks like it got a bit confused in this case, which is obviously less than ideal, but if you stick to one variant of the ISBN (I always use the 13, if available), and tweet your start and finish only once, this won't be a problem.
Bkkeepr isn't as robust as I'd like, for which I apologise, but I don't charge for it and if you use it correctly it does what you expect. In this case, I'm afraid it choked a little because you were using it in a strange way.
