Podcasts and Developing LocallyLove the podcast - especially that you're able to do it weekly.
I'm a relatively new web developer and thus have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to GitHub, Subversion, Capistrano and so on. Basically, when I make a site or any changes to my sites, I always do it on the server, not locally. I make changes to a template, hit Submit, and then check it out in a browser.
What are the advantages to doing it the other way? Do all the pros do it locally? Are there any articles for NEWBIES about how to set this up? I've gone to your respective posts and they seem a bit advanced.
Thanks again for the podcast (and yes, I just subscribed to the RSS!)
Jim

Here's the shot - you have to go to something besides the front page (I haven't changed the front page yet to include the new footer). storyfanatic.com/linked has the new footer
I think it has something to do with the CSS that the mini-bar is using conflicting with what I did - the page loads as normally, then as soon as the mini-bar opens, the white space opens up.

http://storyfanatic.com/linked
is part of the new design that is creating the white space at the end. Part of it might have to do with my efforts to create a "sticky-footer" at the bottom (a footer attached to the bottom of the page).
On the home page, I just have a basic footer and there is no extra white space:

Thanks again.

Feedly mini-bar adding white space?Recently updated the design of my site only to find out that there is some sort of conflict with it and the Feedly minibar. Basically, it's adding about 30px or so of white space at the bottom of the page. This only shows up AFTER the page has loaded and before the minibar pops up.
When I exclude my site within the Feedly preferences, this white space disappears and the page loads normally (it looks like it does in other browsers that don't have Feedly installed).
It could be that there is some conflict with my site as I have yet to see this behavior on other sites. I've tried disabling my javascripts to see if they were interfering, but nothing seems to work except turning off the Feedly minibar.
Would you have any idea why this white space is showing up and how I could possibly fix it?
Thanks!-

New ads are too muchSry - I really like the concept of blippr, but the new ads are too much. On the side, all over the bottom - it feels more like I'm on MySpace than an awesome 2.0 site. I know you have to pay bills and don't blame you for doing so, but is there a way to make them less conspicuous? It's like the difference between Slacker and Pandora. Pandora's ads are elegant and non-intrusive. Slacker's give the appearance of being low-rent.
Just my 2 cents - overall though I'm glad you're still building it because I think it's got great potential!
jamesrhull reported a problem in blippr on November 18, 2008 18:30:
Widget not showing the correct number of itemsThe widget shows one less item than the script calls for. For example if my script says this: '=all&num=5">' It will only show 4 items. If change the num to 6, then the 5 items are shown. It's weird because it worked fine without any modifications until a week or two ago.
No big deal, but just wanted to let you know.
