A comment on the problem "Why does twhirl disappear?" in Seesmic:
Sure, no problem! On the computer twhirl isn't working on I'm running a network distributed version of Symantic Antivirus. On the Vista PC that twhirl DOES work on I'm running Norton 360. And on the Mac, well, not running any anti-virus at all and having no problem with Twhirl. – Robert Svihla, on September 05, 2008 20:02

Well, I really appreciate you taking to share the information you do have. It really does help out. If you do have a moment, I would be curious to know if you have any anit-virus software running. (sometimes those mess with non-virusy applications) – Thomas Knoll, on September 05, 2008 19:31

I wish I had more info on how to reproduce it, but it literally just started happening out of the blue. Twhirl works fine on my two other computers (one Mac, one Vista), but as far as I can tell, there wasn't any specific thing that lead to this current issue. And I've got no problem loading up Spaz or some other Adobe Air twitter client -- I just don't like any of those other ones :) – Robert Svihla, on September 05, 2008 17:28

I'm having the disappearing twhirl issue, too. Running on Windows XP sp2, twhirl version 0.8.4. It shows up in the task manager, but there's no icon in the systray and the windows never pop up.

Hope the image helps somewhat. As you can see, it's not in the systray, even though it's running, and it's not an open window, either.

Why does Twhirl disappear? No window, no tray icon. Who cares? Here’s how to fix it.

I just had this problem for the first time on my Mac, and the solution fixes it, which is fantastic. I just thought I'd chime in that the same thing happens when you minimize the app on Ubuntu Linux. I had just chalked it up to AIR being alpha-quality on Linux and didn't think anything of it 'til it happened on my Mac, too. Thanks for the solution, though!

I had the same problem when I used twhirl.
Windows XP sp2
It worked fine at first then as time went on, a message box appear
about twhirl not functioning properly (send/dont send report)
rebooted my computer 20 times (gave up eventually), then reformatted my disk. It was probably because of adobe air. I even tried reinstalling adobe air before reformatting but it gives the same error as twhirl.

Oh, I guess I should have elaborated more in my reply.
The API documentation was recently updated (Apr 29 if I remember right) so if there is no Track API method listed there, then chances are it doesn't exist.
Your best bet therefore is to join the Twitter Development Group and post a request for such a method there.

You'll find the API documentation in the Twitter Development Group. That's where most of the API developers hang out.
