The Vox process: after the subscriber logs in, you click on "Change Your Design", which takes you to this screen:

Then, click on "customize your sidebars" (the only place embeds are permitted outside of one's blog text):

Next, the subscriber chooses "Configure" and that yields this screen:

You paste in your code, click "OK"....and pray! To see how the widget actually will probably appear to viewers, you can elect to "[View Your] Blog", but for an accurate view of what viewers will see, it is necessary to log out and navigate to one's own page. Circuitous, but the only method I've found trustworthy at Vox.com.

I was going to just demo the code I added to the "embed" option on my Vox blog, but every time I've tried to paste it to this page so you could see it, it is whited out. What do I need to do to "de-fuse" it so it will show up here?
Meanwhile, until I can show you the Widgetbox codes I embedded at Vox.com, a couple of notes worth mentioning: Vox recommends subscribers add this string ---- at the top of the embed codes to "stretch" the available space in the left sidebar to allow for the total height of all the widgets one uses, then, end the block of code with this --.
Other than those two required snippets, I pasted the code in exactly as it was provided by Widgetbox (that's not to say though, that I might not have goofed somehow else!) BTW, the pixel allowance for Vox's sidebar width is fixed at 165 px (170 if you don't mind losing a border).

Dear Dave,
Thank you for the info re the MySpace part of the problem. Sounds like I'm stuck with a "wobbly widget" until they resolve their issues.
As for the iframe thingy: I am blonde, so when you say things like, "...for security reasons, we need that code snippet from the network widget to be directly on the page instead", I'm not sure what that means. :::sorry!::: What, if anything can I do at my end to rectify the situation? The widget looks sooooo good on my page ;-)

Although we are mostly pleased with the product's features and operation, the "thermal" carafe -- the principal reason we purchased the coffeemaker -- is extremely disappointing.
We bought your coffeemaker to replace our old Keurig: it had a simple glass carafe and, after making coffee, we had to transfer the coffee to a thermal carafe to keep it hot without diminishing its quality. When making our final product selection, we wanted to be able to eliminate this "brew-&-transfer" step by purchasing a coffeemaker that brewed directly into a thermal serving carafe.
Your "thermal" carafe's ability to keep coffee hot is an abysmal disappointment; it is "thermal" in name only. If we brew a 6-cup pot of coffee directly into your carafe, an hour later, the coffee has cooled appreciably and distastefully. However, if we brew a 6-cup pot of coffee directly into your carafe, then transfer the coffee into our old standby serving carafe (a Starbucks carafe, by the way), the coffee is still hot and tasty TWO hours later.
This is our second dismaying purchase of a product from your company: it is doubtful we will ever purchase or recommend a Black & Decker household appliance again. (We also own a B&D Dustbuster; a mere six months after its purchase, and despite scrupulous care and maintenance on our part, it barely operates for longer than five minutes, even with a full day's charge. As for the vacuum's suction ability, a child with a straw has greater suction power.)
We hope you will take our comments under the most serious consideration. Even at a sale price of thirty-five dollars, we regret the money spent for the 8-cup Thermal Coffeemaker. As "java-nistas" who brew 4-5 pots of coffee a day and who look forward to a superior cup of coffee, it is irritating that the money we spend on buying excellent coffee beans to brew are wasted by the poor "thermal" qualities of your carafe.

N.B. - After Black & Decker's rote, lackluster response, we returned the coffeemaker to Target. Thanks to a special offer Gevalia made us for ordering by phone, we purchased their 8-Cup Thermal Coffeemaker for a few dollars more than the Black & Decker, and along with it, received two boxes of their coffee. We have no complaints whatsoever about the Gevalia or its truly thermal carafe.
As for the eight-month-old Dust Buster, we sold it at a garage sale last week for $2.00 (down from our original asking price of $5), but we still had the better end of the bargain. With part of the proceeds from our garage sale, we bought an Electrolux Pronto 2-for1 (an upright carpet and floor sweeper with detachable hand vacuum). Perhaps it is glorified by comparison with the B & D, but it has surprised us with its charge capacity, vacuum strength, and versatility.
Also: we used the Consumer Guide for cursory research on household appliances (find it here:http://products.howstuffworks.com/). Although it is extremely useful for side-by-side comparisons of similar products and raised our awareness of product features and/or functions we didn't know about, their test results didn't always match our experience. They highly praise the exact B & D Dust Buster we owned and were lukewarm in their opinion of the Electrolux.
Ultimately, then, this post should have been labeled as "Give Praise". Because Black & Decker failed to step up to the plate, we were obligated to find products that performed as promised, made by responsive manufacturers. Thank you, Black & Decker.

The blidget appears in the Widgetbox Gallery; friends and colleagues have been able to install it without any issues. Then, I joined the "Art & Design" Network and installed that widget on my blog website; again, no problems. From the Network widget installed at my blog site, I selected "Add Your Blog"; then, at the "Join the Widgetbox Network" window, I selected "Add yourself to a Widgetbox Network" and chose "Use existing blidget".
At that point, I encountered Problem 1 -- only an older blidget is shown in the drop-down list. That being so, I selected the alternate option "Use your blog URL". At that point, everything SEEMED to run smoothly (added the Vox.com URL for my blog, shown above in paragraph 1) and a thumbnail JPEG, hosted at Photobucket -- everything still AOK). Got the embed code for the Network Widget, erased the code for Art & Design's original install at my blog site, replacing it with the new embed code. The Network widget appears and functions just as it should.
HOWEVER, when I return to the Widgetbox "Get & Install" screen to confirm the installation, I get the following message:
"We were unable to verify the Network widget on your blog.
The blog does not contain the widget code. Please make sure the Network widget is installed on your blog and try again.
Your blog URL:
http://gitanajava-productions.vox.com/ "
So, I try again, this time using the RSS feed "feed://gitanajava-productions.vox.com/library/posts/atom.xml". Same results, same message when I attempt to confirm.
If Dave R. or any of the other fab folks at Widgetbox should wander through the room, you will have my undying gratitude if you can step me through what I need to do differently to add my blog to the Art & Design network widget/blidget.
In a separate yet related matter, it's worth mentioning that when I installed my blog's blidget to the "About Me" column on my MySpace page, it still has two minor issues I don't know how to troubleshoot:
(1) The blidget functions as it should but it appears on the far left side of the right column (i.e., within the About Me section, but just a pixel or two inside the border) -- all my other "add-ons" appear centered in their appropriate columns;
(2) The body of the blidget is detached from the grey tab (?) bearing the words "Get Widget"; that tab IS more or less centered. This blidget, by the way, replaces another Widgetbox blidget which functioned AND appeared as intended, in the center of the About Me column. All of the code for that earlier widget was thoroughly deleted, long before placing the new blidget in the About Me section.

God bless the Good Ship Google and all who sail in her -- in an unusual reversal and almost one month to the day since they removed it, Google has restored the Search the Web option to Gmail.
Never let it be said that a respectful, organized, persistent, (mostly) intelligent protest by subscribers won't make a difference.

Unfortunately, this Google/Gmail gadget does not emulate the original Search the Web option that we had on our Gmail page: just like a browser search box, this gadget "highjacks" the Gmail page and replaces it with a search results list.
The original Search the Web option opened an additional page which could then be used side-by-side for comparison and reference purposes as one read/wrote mail. – Java4Diva, on February 23, 2009 23:18

It is bizarre, ironic, and frustrating and COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE that
Google, the leading search engine, should REMOVE the "Search THE Web"
option from the Gmail page. The ability to simply, quickly, and easily -- virtually in one motion -- search for content, do a quick bit of sideline research, perform a quick fact
check, all while composing or reading email, has been a compelling reason for me to favor Gmail over any of my other webmail providers. While I can't say removing the "Search Web" option is a deal-breaker, I can say it isn't a deal-maker.
Another small irony here: by adding "Move" (and a semblance of
folders for newbies who don't quite grasp the modus operandi of
Gmail), Google is remodelling Gmail to resemble more strongly other
traditional webmail destinations like Yahoo, et al., yet in the same
motion, they have subtracted "Search Web" which is a function other
webmail sites emulate because of its brilliant and expedient usefulness.
Sorry, Google, but have you forgotten what your primary product
is? Search!
Please, Google, bring back the "Search the Web" option to Gmail. :-/
