I can appreciate that, you wouldn't want your app to unintentionally corrupt a user's photo/collection.
However, I probably should have made my post as a separate question rather than latching on to this one.
The functionality that I really want is for FlickrExport to grab the Lat/Long when uploading to Flickr and I was hoping this would give you a clue for getting through the "walled garden" that you mentioned in the original reply.
If those are two completely separate issues, I apologize for taking up your time but I do appreciate the response - especially on a Sunday!
Thanks,
Jay

PS: Also, check out this blog post on the developer's website and read the last (14th) comment

I've just recently finished geotagging several thousand pictures in iPhoto '09 using the following workflow:
1) Select image(s) in iPhoto - nearly all of these photos had not been previously geotagged in any way
2) Navigate to photo location in Google Earth (I'm using GE5.0 and the Crosshair.kmz the is recommended on the Geotagger website)
3) Drag the selected image(s) from iPhoto to the Geotagger alias on my desktop.
4) Wait for Geotagger to finish looping (only necessary with a large number of selected images)
5) Right-click on the image(s) in iPhoto and select "Rescan for location"
6) Spot check a few images to confirm getoags are correctly applied.
Rinse & Repeat
Out of the several thousand images that I tagged, only a handful (less than 20) refused to be tagged. Those files must be partially corrupted in some way because I can't see a common thread in the image data.
I then tested a few of newly tagged photos with the iPhoto '09 built-in Flickr uploader and it correctly placed them in my Flickr Map.
If you need additional information, I'll be happy to tell you what I can. I would really like to see this functionality in FlickrExport as I want to keep lat/long info with all my pix.

Fraser,
Geotagger (http://craig.stanton.net.nz/code/geot...) appears to be able to write to the iPhoto lat/long fields. I've been using it to tag picture that were previously loaded into iPhoto.
Maybe you could contact the developer and find out how he's accessing the geotagging fields?
