Jay Parkinson, MD, MPH replied on June 09, 2009 04:07 to the question "Do you write prescriptions?" in Hello Health:
Of course! Doctors who use Hello Health write prescriptions all the time. Hello Health is about augmenting in-person relationships with online communication. So...you need to create an account and make an appointment with your doctor in their office. When you meet up with your doctor, you can discuss how best to treat those symptoms you're having.

Congrats on the new insurance!
We always recommend that people have some sort of health insurance that protects them from financial ruin should there be a serious illness.
We started Hello Health because we wanted to provide accessible doctors (something insurance taking primary care docs nowadays can't really do and make a living at it). We like to say, "health insurance doesn't equal access to a good doctor." Anyways, if you're finding that even though you have insurance, you can't find an accessible doctor, we'll always be here for you!
So take a peek at the kind of insurance plan you have and if you can see out of network doctors, you can still use docs on Hello Health. They'll simply give you a receipt for their services that your insurance company will reimburse you for.
Be well Louisa.

Jay Parkinson, MD, MPH replied on April 05, 2009 16:24 to the question "Who will be staffing the West Village office?" in Hello Health:
At first, one or two of our current doctors will staff it. However, soon after we open the West Village practice, we're launching our new Hello Health platform to doctors all over the country. It can best be described as an etsy.com but instead of artists and art buyers, it's doctors and patients...with email, IM, and video within our platform enabled to communicate with your local doctor. It's really just a platform that allows you to find a great Hello Health doctor, "friend" them by adding that doctor to your health team, make an appointment with them to meet them in person, then be connected to them via email, IM, video, and office appointments when needed. We've had about 1100 docs so far contact us asking to sign up...it's essentially creating a virtual health care network of health professionals who communicate like we all do nowadays and provide a more personalized in-person and online relationship with you. Since we're not saddled with the traditional infrastructure, we can offer our services for a very affordable price. It's a bit like the decentralized, high-quality, low-cost Huffington Post vs. traditional newspapers saddled with the high cost infrastructure needed to power 20th Century business models. Exciting stuff!
Jay Parkinson, MD, MPH replied on April 05, 2009 15:40 to the question "How could the Hello Health model work for people who have traditional health-care plans, but aren't satisfied with them?" in Hello Health:
Hi Avi...thanks for asking. We believe the best way to leverage the accessibility of Hello Health is to combine our services with a high deductible plan. For example, pay less per month for your insurance premiums, and pay full price as you need for health services until you spend over say, $2500 per year, on health care. After that, traditional insurance kicks in. We would help you manage your health as cost effectively as possible until you hit your deductible. Many people would spend their entire deductible only once every say 10 years. Therefore, you could use 100% Hello Health 9 out of 10 years. The other year, you'd use us until you spend $2500 and then unfortunately you'd have to use the traditional health care system's infrastructure to receive care for the rest of that year. If it's convenient for you to come to Williamsburg, you can become a member now. But we're also planning to expand to other neighborhoods soon, with more Hello Health doctors who know each of their patients and each of their neighborhoods, and if you're in a Hello Health neighborhood, you can even schedule house calls. Feel free to sign up on our website for updates about when we're coming to where you live.
