JC set one of Chris Heald's replies as an official response to "Frequent Downtime" in blippr
Chris Heald's reply to "Frequent Downtime" was just promoted to the most useful! JC and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
We're running on limited hardware at the moment, so when we do have a problem, it doesn't get loadbalanced over to other hardware just yet. We're hoping to address this soon, however.
We had one outage two weeks ago, and one last night (unfortunately, in the case of an OS failure, the VM requires a reboot, which is what happened there). We do have automated failure recovery systems in place that automatically fix any smaller problems, but the big stuff like that requires a human at the controls, and we're small enough still that we can't manually monitor 24/7.
In some cases, we are actually over capacity - we had some inbound links this past week that spiked our traffic to something like 12x our normal traffic, so there were small periods where all the app servers were busy. Again, this will be alleviated by additional hardware in our clusters.
I do apologize for the downtime, and please rest assured that we're doing what we can to make sure we minimize it moving forward. We're still growing and getting a feel for the bounds of the app, so it may be a bit shaky as we get things smoothed out. However, we do have a plan in place to deal with it, very certainly want to keep downtime to a minimum!

Josh and Noah, not sure how I didn't respond to this earlier, but I want to thank you for the feedback.
Josh, like Noah has noted, we have quite a bit more growing to do prior to "branching out". While we do believe that blippr undoubtedly has value in other categories besides media, we believe our focus on books, games, movies, and music (and soonish, TV), actually makes blippr more valuable for the time being. The strict focus on this consumable media allows you to know exactly what you're looking for and concentrate more reviews of common titles, rather than reviews across various categories.
In the meantime, keep on blipping! We may spread our wings sooner than you think.

Wow, the feedback on this idea is incredible! Since all of you are iPhone users/lovers, we would love for your personal take on what you would like to see in the app. In our opinion, simple is better--we would like for the app to remain focused and helpful--but what that exactly represents, we would love to know what your take is. Don't be shy. Email jc @ the name of our website .com.

JC replied on September 03, 2008 16:05 to the question "Most blipped and top blippr list?" in blippr:
idimw, we had that exact thing in mind. Regarding the "most blippd," we already have that as you browse each category (for example: http://www.blippr.com/movies?sort=bli...). The "top blippr" list will be coming as well, which will fit nicely with the badges.
Thanks for the suggestion, and keep 'em up!
JC set one of JC's replies as an official response to "How do I add a title on blippr if it's not already there?" in blippr
JC replied on August 27, 2008 04:46 to the question "How do I add a title on blippr if it's not already there?" in blippr:
For those of you wanting to add a title that isn't already on blippr, follow these 5 simple steps:
1) Search for the full title of what you want to add
2) Click the category it falls under (books/games/movies, etc.)
3) If it's not already on blippr, click "Try an extended search for..." at the bottom of the page. See here, for example
4) The link stated in step 3 will take you into an extended search for that title
5) If it's there, click the title and a page will be added for it to blippr. If it's not there, scroll to the very bottom of the page and add the title manually. Make sure you're accurate with the spelling before adding it.
Voilà! Your title is there and now you can blip away

JC replied on July 29, 2008 03:49 to the question "Where are the RSS feeds for our blips?" in blippr:
Hey James, an RSS feed of your blips can be found here: http://www.blippr.com/profiles/jamesr...
Most other content can be found by just adding .rss to the URL, too. Just look for the feed in the browser address bar.
Thanks for asking! And sorry it wasn't more clear... we'll be working on that.
