We just released a fix that addresses the blank photos/white box in 2D issue. . Existing users won't be prompted to upgrade, but you can install the upgrade here if you're affected.

We've already made a change to show synthiness when the compute is done (we don't have separate progress bars, though).

These are all great ideas. With the feature we have to hold the control key down and move the model around, we plan on giving you a 'halo' to grab even if there isn't one there. That would allow your request of being able to grab and move the model from any location.
Path fitting (as you may have seen in Noah's latest Siggraph presentation) is also on our list of to dos. We hope to release something by end of year with it.
