After a rough start last summer, we closed things down for a time and worked out several issues, both with the application system and our policies and procedures. We've left the painful trail of feedback on GetSatisfaction in the spirit of full disclosure and transparency, but it doesn't reflect the current service.

Unofficially, I can tell you that we use SSL connections, that our assistants are trustworthy, and that we take basic measures to keep your data confidential.
Officially and for legal purposes, however, we can make no guarantee. Even with agreements our assistants make, it's nearly impossible to ensure that data never gets into the wrong hands as it zips across the internet. I would suggest never submitting extremely sensitive data to our site (or any others for that matter.) If you need somebody you can trust this kind of data with, you'd probably be better served by finding somebody you can screen and hire directly- somebody that you know personally and have a history of trusting. For me, that person is a college student that I've known since he was a little kid and I trust him with just about anything.
Jed replied on September 13, 2008 11:24 to the question "Do you offer CL ad posting services?" in HavingThingsDone:
James-
Yes, posting ads on Craigslist or even selling stuff on eBay is a great use of HTD, especially because your assigned assistant can screen a lot of the follow-up emails and such.
(I think GetSatisfaction will send you an email alert to this response, but I'll drop you a separate note just in case.)
Jed replied on September 13, 2008 11:22 to the question "What exactly can you do?" in HavingThingsDone:
HTD is best suited for what we refer to as "everday tasks." Keep in mind that most of our assistants are college students. As such, some of them have specialized skill sets that might line up with a special need you have, but you'll get the best and fastest results on tasks that are general, or that can be assigned with clear, straightforward instructions.
Basic blog setup, editing, and moderation is something we can handle, so long as it doesn't require programming or technical customization. Web programming is something that several people have requested, but there are already a lot of services that provide that type of service.
But we're still young and growing, and we want to build something people love to use. We're open to any suggestions you have on what would make this your ideal service!

Yep! The sign-up link is actually on the home page, but it's intentionally a little small. We want to make sure we meet the demand and grow at a sustainable rate (we all know what happened to GetFriday last year...), so we're still on a one or two day wait from the time you sign up until you can start rolling- but that'll soon be changing.

Currently, HTD hires only fluent English speakers that live in the U.S. The majority of them are college students from a variety of degree programs. They are carefully selected, trained, and monitored to provide service that is consistent with our standards. However, we do allow assistants to display their own style, and they all have their own tricks and techniques for completing your tasks in a timely fashion.
