The town i'm from was a huge manufacturer of quality high end furniture years ago. I'm to young to remember. My grandfather and uncles worked in these plants. Names like Union National Furniture, Empire Case Goods,Maddox Table Company and Sterling. There is one company left. Fanchure Chair who just signed a contract to make chairs for The White Press Corp. So sad to see great companies and jobs go over seas. I would rather save money up for a long time and buy quality than the junk that is out there now.

I was in St. louis last week on vacation. I went to visit a Thomasville store. I currently own three thomasville pieces. I am looking for a new dining table and chairs. Every piece and i state again every piece in the store on display had veneer that was de-laminating and lifting up. I was shocked. I brought it to the attention of the clerk. She stated they have been having problems with quality control. I have decided to start looking for older dining sets that were made in USA in the 50's 60's 70's. Even if it means i have to have a table top refinished. For the Ethan Allen fans out there, up until 3 or 4 years ago, there were two plants in my home town here. They are closed down. They are sourcing alot of their stuff over seas also. I bought a bedroom set from them. Hardrock maple made in C.T. However that was 5 years ago. Nice stuff.
