This support forum isn't actively monitored - please email support@expandrive.com and it'll go right to the engineers. Thanks!

Jeff Mancuso replied on August 16, 2009 00:03 to the question "How do I change permissions using ExpanDrive?" in ExpanDrive:
Unfortunately - no.
chown, for instance, will just ask os x "give me the UID for jmancuso". at that point, it'll tell the filesystem "set file's owner to 500" - which is what comes into expandrive. Without rewriting chown, we couldn't make anything like that work.
It also wouldn't work over SFTP [at all], since there is no mechanism to file the username of a particular UID.

chgrp/own doesn't have a ton of meaning on a remote filesystem. if you happen to know the numerical UID of the remote user you can get what you want - but you can't use the name of the remote user. when chown is run locally with a username specified, it has no choice but to look up the UID of that user in the local database - which is very unlikely to mirror the remote server's database unless you're in a federated environment of some sort.

Jeff Mancuso replied on August 11, 2009 01:01 to the question "Expandrive deletes your files" in ExpanDrive:
We just released ExpanDrive 2.0.4b1 on the auto updater, which provides a workaround that prevents data loss using CSSEdit.
The issue roughly works like this - in hosting environments that have nested filesystems [such as a path that is a nest NFS/ZFS mount point], older version of OpenSSH based servers will not correctly rename a file using absolute pathnames when a pathname contains components from two separe filesystem. Due to limitations in the SFTP protocol, in order to rename a file over top an existing file [which is what CSSEdit does], you first need to unlink the target file. When the rename unexpectedly fails due to this server bug, the original is lost.
The fix provided in 2.0.4 will ensure that the original file contents are preserved under the original name. However, there is no way for us to provide a workaround so that saving works correctly - you will need your provider to update their server software. Please report back with any input you guys have, thanks so much for working with on this issue.

Brian - sorry about this. Like we said before, we've undertaken a major new project which we'll be announcing soon. Following that, ExpanDrive 2 for the PC is our next major endeavor. We're still hoping to get it out this year. – Jeff Mancuso, on July 19, 2009 23:38

Court K -
I 100% agree with you. If you can get him on the horn, please help us out. We've sent 4 emails begging for a response.
We still can't replicate the issue over here - I don't think the problem is pervasive, but we're working as hard as we can to figure whose fault it is and fix it.
We'll figure it out
