Correct when you enable the layout manager it will delete any custom content you created. So yes it would be best to simply create everything from the beginning in the layout manager.

If you are talking in regards to the layout managers tabs you simply have to click drag and drop the tab to the front of the other tabs. You can learn about the layout manager in this introduction video.

In regards it 'so their levels will show' do you mean so on their profiles/comments it will show what level they are on your network? This isn't currently possible with the platform.

All you have to do in the layout manager in your admin panel is

1) drag your home tab in front of your welcome tab
2) set the tabs privacy settings by clicking edit page to 'viewable to logged in members only'
