Hi-Can you comment on any of your friends's shared items or only a few? If it's only certain friends, it's because they haven't added you to a sharing group yet in order for you to be able to comment on their items. (Currently, we don't allow you to comment on items unless the sharer has you in a sharing group).
If you can't comment on any items, and you previously could, it sounds like something that needs a bit more investigating. -

Hi all- When you add contacts to groups in Reader, they will appear in that contact group in Gmail, but will not appear in your list in Reader if they haven't shared any items recently. We do this to streamline the list so it's easier to go through the people that are actively sharing and reading your shared items.
