Well its important that you already have some special ability like knowing how to fly, becoming invisible, leaping buildings in a single bound, or spending 20-30 hours a day on hubdub.
:)
There's a little more info in the FAQ:

Keep making good questions, discussing settlement details and sending flags/settlement requests and I'm sure your day will come too when you can proudly wear your underpants on the outside.

A comment on the idea "Highest Net Worth Reached??" in Hubdub:
Its automatic. You just to have hit play on the macro and it pulls in all the leaderboards and updates my networth graph. I agree it should be a feature of hubdub, but it will likely be a little while until they get to it and I've enjoyed it in the meantime! – jenniandboys, on May 25, 2008 00:03

I've been keeping track of my and tri's net worth for a couple of months now in Excel. Its great fun to have a graph functionality and see where you have big spikes (at least the up spikes are fun). I was actually ahead of him for one day last week!
I sent Nigel an email about this a couple weeks ago and also mentioned having a multi select to plot yourself against any of your friends that you wanted to. He said it was on the list (but probably a little lower than some other stuff).
If anyone else has Excel and at least a glancing familiarity with VBA, I'd be happy to send my sheet along (for modifications) or tell you how to set one up yourself.
jenniandboys replied on May 23, 2008 14:18 to the problem ""Question suspends in" clock is off by an hour" in Hubdub:
I'm not overly keen on switching to GMT altogether because I do think its a little confusing -- especially for new question creators.
I do agree that it is really annoying though.
Besides the wonky daylight savings time issue, the clock appears to be off by a few minutes. Questions that should suspend at 1559 (like the indicies questions) typically suspend at about 1602 -- after the market has closed.
I have to believe that there is an easy fix that just has fallen to the bottom of the pile... Nigel, Tom? Can you tell us what the status is please?-

Hey Tisha - you forgot to link this in the question (will go do it now).
They sang a full minute of Step by Step, so I think it should be settled as such. I don't see why they would have to sing the entire song for it to count.
I'm slightly biased since voids on my questions are like daggers to the heart but I'm pretty sure I would feel the same if it wasn't my question.

*Sighs in satisfaction*
Much better.
I still hope this isn't the "final" iteration -- I think the sidebar is still a little too big for instance -- but its SOOOOO much better than yesterday that I'm willing to live with it for a while now.
I haven't studied web design layout (I'm positive others here have, please correct me if I'm wrong) but it seems like placing the social networking bar above the market box would be more noticable.

Comma - good.
Pundit - curious
Power users - soooo ready!!
Layout - still hate it.
I will use it for a couple of days and then come back here and tell you again how much I don't like it... In the meantime, here are more of my "initial" thoughts.
I like having access to the recent predictions information -- I've seen that in many other prediction markets and it seems fun. However, at the moment that feels like the main "point" of the page. It should be in a tab or on a side panel. Maybe like the "New questions in this category" used to be.
Also, the sidebar seems to have gotten significantly bigger. It should remain a side bar and not such a major part of the screen. I think you want to keep your focus on the actual question which includes the graph (bring that back please) and the market options which shouldn't be so small compared to everything else on the page.
I have no problems with the social networking buttons on the page. Although again, they are taking up MORE real estate than the actual market options. Some simple resizing/layout changes will make me a lot happier.
I do think it was a good idea to pull the settlement details to the front page.
Just a final thought - I've checked out several other prediction markets and always come back to hubdub because I think the layout is so much clearer and easier to use. Be careful in trying to be more like them -- I don't think that's a good goal.

New market layout and recent predictions window (Yuck)I love the idea of including the recent predictions on a market, but really hate the new layout. It feels very cluttered to me.
Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of suggestions for making it better... that's why I started a discussion here instead of just sending an email. I'm hoping someone has some brilliant suggestions.
I do think maybe you could switch the graph back to the top and maybe put recent predictions under a tab?
It also seems like the "make your own prediction" section is smaller and off to the side. Isn't that kind of the whole point? I think that should be the first and biggest thing you see. Not what other people have been doing.
Here's to hoping someone else has some good ideas and you guys aren't too much in love with the current layout. Or maybe I'm the only one who hates it?

jenniandboys replied on April 30, 2008 15:15 to the discussion "How do we structure RCP Average Markets?" in Hubdub:
I think there is a significant difference between this and the earthquake markets in that there is an EXACT number of earthquakes on a given day, we are just having trouble determing what that # is.
Here we are asked what an average will be on a given day. So you go look on that day and see what the average is.
I did make a little h$ on this question (about 200 if I remember right), but I do not think that is coloring my opinion: I don't see why the original settlement is "false". The market asked for the average after 1800 on the 28th. So at 1800 on the 28th, the average is 0. Why is that not the answer? Just because the next day it says something else doesn't matter.
That said, I do see that changing #'s make this harder to settle. I think polls usually come in during working hours EST, so if they could be settled anytime between 1800 and 0600EST the #'s should stay consistent. I agree with markov that I think users will be honest in settlement requests. If you get snapshots that don't match, that should serve as a red flag for that user.
In the long run, I don't really care what is decided. I'll pass the results of the discussion back to tri if he decides to make another question.-

Question stealing: a sin or a virtue?Someone wrote my American Idol question this week and I have to say I was pretty upset... that is until I remembered that I stole it from bayoubear to begin with about a month ago.
There is definitely a sense of "ownership" for the questions and categories that people usually handle. Especially, I think for the high volume questions - there's a certain thrill about seeing your name on the front page for the first time. On the other hand, the level of possessiveness that has developed around these questions makes it a lot harder for new users to come up with reasonable questions. Additionally, if a market isn't being made, do you step in and do it, ask permission first, or does that question type always belong to that person to make or not?
So what do you think? Should we continue to stake out our turfs, should we encourage new users to take over or should we make them find their own turf?
(Tone note: no criticism happening here, hope no one feels defensive. Just wanting to bring topic to discussion)

I have to say I'm somewhat surprised by some of the responses here, but certainly understand where people are coming from. I also know some people don't like real life mixing too much with internet life. (My husband would never do it).
I wonder if Hubdub could rethink this strategy to maintain a little more anonymity. Perhaps just stick with avatars and home states/country? So I can remain jenniandboys from NY without giving out my real name (since you could never guess it) or my city.
I'm guessing they're just trying to show how people all over the world are enjoying the site and that can certainly be accomplished with cute pictures of animals (even Mork's ape picture) instead of real pictures.
jenniandboys marked one of mork's replies in Hubdub as useful. mork replied to the idea "Give us some Hubdub love!". jenniandboys and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
