Chris, "about" posts are notes and photos that you can post to a location without actually being checked in there. To do that, you would just visit that location's place page and click the "Post a note" or "Post a photo" button. For instance, I could go to the Paris, France place page and post photos of a past trip I took, etc. Since these updates aren't about what you are *currently* doing, they will not send out notifications or share to Twitter, but they will show in your user stream. Now non-about posts are just normal notes and photos that you submit while you are currently at a location and they post to where you are currently checked in. Since these are real-time updates, they will share to Twitter and notify your friends when they are posted. I hope that helps some. :) – Lesley, on October 06, 2008 15:54

Martin - Posting from a location without checking in there need not necessarily be a post "about" that place. I might want to post updates while I am traveling from A to B, without really checking into the locations on the way. That would definitely qualify as "What are you doing?" posts! ;) – Sameer, on August 12, 2008 12:15
A comment on the question "How about sending brightkite updates etc, from JOTT?" in Brightkite:
Yeah, I would love this feature as well. I tried testing sending to my personal brightkite e-mail, but I think Jott adds stuff to the e-mail that confuses the parsing engine at BK. – Chris Pohlad-Thomas, on July 08, 2008 17:25
jesmc shared an idea in Tumblr on July 05, 2008 09:44:
Permalinks via dashboard.I think it'd be great to be able to access the permalink for a post from the dashboard. There are times when I want the url for the post I'm looking at and it's a real drag when I'm already there in the dashboard to have to re-navigate to it via archive, etc-

jesmc asked a question in Brightkite on May 22, 2008 23:16:
Problems cross-posting to TwitterI've been in private mode w/Everyone set to City for Check-ins and Exact for Posts. Yet I only get cross-posts to Twitter for one location. (I hope the fact I've check-in at this place and not at the others doesn't make a difference.) I just tried again this time switching myself to public, then posted a note about a location but it did not come through to Twitter. Please help! I'm really getting attached to Brightkite
