Not sure I understand the value of NOT having this feature. The challenge with adoption of many web-based-services is that they force us out of our standard workflow, requiring authentication and browsers where there's no real added value if I'm just responding to someone's comment.
We use Basecamp all the time, and one of the key features that keeps it in our arsenal is the ability to respond to comments directly within the email thread, without having to open the app.

A comment on the idea "iphone version" in Pivotal Labs:
Dan, could you merge this idea with the other iphone idea and close them out? Would love to see you guys implement some of the other ideas now that this is taken care of. – jgentes, on October 07, 2009 14:33

Initial feedbackoy, yet another social network profile to maintain. Why not openid already?
Also, I see the value of private messaging, but 1) not enough to use a totally new service as opposed to a bolt-on for twitter, and 2) to me micropresence is about using GPS to show people where I am in an automated way, which i keep hoping to see.

Cool thing about the iPhone is that it retains all of it's configuration and data in iTunes, so you can just blow it away and it will bring it back down to earth without much pain. It's worth a shot anyway, since it's pretty non-destructive, assuming you were able to sync it to iTunes at least once.
To restore iPhone and reset the phone to default factory settings, follow these steps:
1. Turn off iPhone - Hold down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the red slider. Ignore this step if your iPhone is already off.
2. Press and hold down the Home button for about 10 seconds until a yellow triangle with a text which says Please Connect to iTunes appears.
3. Plug the iPhone into Mac or Windows PC. Release the button if you haven’t.
4. Run and open iTunes if it’s not already opened yet. iTunes will prompt a message that says iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click OK.
5. You will be taken to the iPhone pane. Then, click on Restore.
6. Wait for the full restoration process to complete, and the iPhone will be back to the original settings state as when it left the manufacturing factory, typically a working phone again if you face any problem, unless it’s hardware related.
Also, if you're still feeling :-,( try reinstalling iTunes or play blockles on iminlikewithyou.com to burn off some steam.
jgentes reported a problem in Google on March 24, 2009 16:27:
Chrome losing/forgetting cookies after a whileHas anyone else had this issue? Many of my banking sites "remember" my browser for future visits using cookies. Also, they will remember that I'm logged-in for sites like GMail and so-on. With Chrome, however, I'm finding that every few days it forgets this info, and I have to re-authenticate my banking sites, and re-log in to other sites. It seems Chrome loses and/or deletes my cookies.
No, I have not deleted cookies, used incognito mode, or used any other program to delete temp files
Also note that I'm running Vista, and have disabled the auto-clean of temporary files that Vista runs during it's tune-up process. Still same issue - somehow the cookies are getting removed and it's frustrating to have to re-authenticate the system on banking websites and others..
I'm running the 2.0 Beta branch of Chrome, so it's apparently not fixed in the latest build. Haven't tried the Dev branch.
jgentes reported a problem in Netgear on March 23, 2009 17:30:
Router drops wireless connection regularly.I've researched this online, seems to be a common problem with various do-it-yourself hacks at a solution, with no real fix available from Netgear. I'm considering picking up a Linksys, but I'm not sure it's actually the router that's at fault. :(
jgentes replied on March 23, 2009 17:26 to the question "auto-shorten urls?" in Twitter:
Here's my take on how it should be addressed: Whenever posting to twitter, I have to take my links and go to tinyurl.com to convert them before inserting them into the tweet. Twitter should do this automatically for links that are posted, unless the user explicitly says they don't want URL shortening to happen.-
