Jim replied on August 22, 2008 00:58 to the question "What to do about "Christmas"?" in Songbird:
Hey Wayne,
Thanks for checking us out, and taking the time to give us feedback. We really appreciate it! Couple things...
1) There are some good smart playlist examples in this Lifehacker post from earlier this year that may give you some ideas (notice their holiday music example). Unfortunately, some of the examples listed there aren't possible in Songbird because we're currently unable to support using is or is not in playlist x as a rule in generating a smart playlist. That's something we're hoping to include in the next release, but we're not 100% sure we'll be able to. I personally have my fingers crossed!
2) As you point out, we also currently don't include a checkbox in the UI to remove an item from playback/syncing/importing. We hope to include this soon, but again, unfortunately, we're not 100% sure when we can get to it. Most likely it'll be introduced as part of CD rip.
So to sum up, it looks like for now the best solution for you is to exclude the Christmas genre from the smart playlists you listen to frequently (Highest Rated, etc.) and install Stevo's Skip on Shuffle add-on.
Thanks again!

Hey there, thanks for checking us out, and taking the time to get in touch! I'm really happy with how far we were able to get with Smart Playlists in this last release. That said, they're not 100% done. We will definitely be adding the ability to select items that belong to a Playlist, Smart Playlist, or Subscription at some point, but we're not sure exactly when that will be yet. I'm hoping for the next release. Thanks again.

Jim reported a problem in Get Satisfaction on July 09, 2008 19:22:
List Widget Borked by Redesign?Problem 1: Our list widget is borked: http://www.songbirdnest.com/support ...maybe due to the redesign?
Problem 2: If I get the latest js, it works, but ordering by 'Activity' gives me timestamps for the original post, as opposed to the latest reply. Since I'm ordering by activity, the latest replies' timestamps would be much more appropriate.
Thanks!

Jim replied on June 24, 2008 20:19 to the question "How are Songbird and Qtrax related?" in Songbird:
Glad you asked. :) Songbird (our company name is POTI, Inc.) makes a desktop media player called the Songbird Player. Qtrax licensed the Songbird Player, added the Qtrax brand, changed the look, and then integrated the Qtrax advertising supported music download service. If you speak geek, Songbird is a software platform providing open API's to allow seamless integration of devices and services into a desktop media player using markup, Javascript, CSS and other Web developer tools.
Songbird doesn't own or operate the Qtrax music service, and we're sorry to report that we can't fix your problems. If you have issues with the Qtrax service or the Qtrax player, you'll need to chat with Qtrax.

A more comprehensive list of which iPods and MTP devices we support has been added to our wiki. We'll continue to update these pages as things change.
