Ladylara - well the dog thing is covered by Jenniandboys. She has a two headed dog from Hades. Photograhic evidence and testimony from concerned neighbours point in that direction. Anyway, please go for the cat thing though. Hub needs some cat people, it's very dog-like at the moment.
I like Russian Blues, Ladylara, and that's a very pretty name, BTW. Where do you live? I'm 39, live in Japan and and am single, but so far it hasn't been anything to do with the drinking problem. I mean being single, not living in Japan, although people do like a beer now and then here, especially during the summer. Which it is now. Where was I?
Anyway, I think everybody should bet on everything. Go Hubdub!!

A comment on the question "No more DJIA, the moron's approach to climbing the leaderboard" in Hubdub:
Yep.! Well put Markov. With regards real time access to the indices - perhaps some users have access to Bloomberg terminals? Those buggers are in a constant state of update, way beyond (if by only a minute or two) anything online. – jimbo, on June 15, 2008 04:52

A comment on the question "No more DJIA, the moron's approach to climbing the leaderboard" in Hubdub:
I agree 100% too with Destry's comments - but if the DJIA markets exist, then I also think ontilt you have a good idea there too. The once a year sporting events, if played in-running, could be quite good fun - for example, I could see a lot of us having a bit of fun prediciting the outcome in-game of the marathon at this year's Olympics. The DJIA questions are possible five days a week - I guess it's a sort of ATM for some users - whenever you run low, just nip into the DJIA for a quick top up. This seems to be against the spirit of HD somehow, and I stick by the idea that the number of points on the DJIA at close is not really news. – jimbo, on June 15, 2008 04:47

jimbo asked a question in Hubdub on June 13, 2008 16:48:
No more DJIA, the moron's approach to climbing the leaderboardJust for !@#$ and giggles, how about Hubdub ban all business stock exchange market indexing questions, and thereby take out the top twenty money makers in a single blow? Any thoughts on this anybody? Wouldn't it be incredible if Hubdub was actually based on "news prediction markets" instead of answers to "will the DJIA finish between 12,500 and 12,600" 30 seconds before the close of trading? But I suppose it'd be a bit like taking away the bamboo from Pandas.

jimbo reported a problem in Hubdub on June 07, 2008 11:51:
I support assisted death and please take away $H10,000 from mehttp://tinyurl.com/4buxup Dr Death needs 3000 signatures to run for Congress
Basically, the outcome as decided by Ryan J on this question is incorrect. It would seem from the links given by supahusah Newswrangler is that in fact Jack Kervokian has INDEED gotten the 3000 signatures necessary to run for Congress. As outlined by NW:
"Assisted Suicide Crusader Jack Kevorkian Makes Congressional Bid Official"
" March 24, 2008
Detroit, MI (LifeNews.com) -- Convicted murderer and assisted suicide crusader Jack Kevorkian made his candidacy for a Detroit-area Congressional seat official on Monday. ...
"State law required Kevorkian to gather 3,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot and he turned in papers with those signatures to local election officials."
<http://www.lifenews.com/bio2376.html>
and here: http://www.reuters.com/article/topNew...
DisealDog (who is having two weeks off in Belize) and I both agree the q should be re-settled or perhaps suspended once again at least until July 17th: From the Oakland Press:
"Kevorkian, a Pontiac native now living in south Oakland County, will have to gather a minimum of 3,000 signatures on nominating petitions by July 17 to appear as an independent on the November ballot, the Michigan Secretary of State's office said."
http://www.theoaklandpress.com/storie...
SO>>>>> either:...
1. resettle as yes
2. suspend until (July 17th) another news source pops up to confirm it.
I made about 4,300 on this, but I know the overworked admin will screw up again and accidentally give me more again one day. So I'll get it back. The important thing I think is that it's settled correctly - that's it! What do you think Ryan? BTW this is nobody's fault: I found the Oakland Press link on Wikipedia, so otherwise it would have been very difficult to determine online that the correct suspension date was July 17th, which is essentially why this problem arose in the first place. I myself couldn't locate anything much on it, and I was interested in the outcome.

Epicur, Your looking SOOO good... I can't take you seriously until you change your image you PHOTOGENIC ANIMAL! I've got "master and servant" playing on the stereo and I'm hiding my naughty bits between my legs in front of a cam. Well, not really. Anyway.. umm.. Hubdub isn't 24.7 yet.. there are Indian monitoring centres for this... until they hire a centre dealing in this area (who exist) then I don't see any reason why they should support 24.7 on a question.
If there is a problem, there is an Indian solution.
jimbo replied on April 20, 2008 17:09 to the problem "Is a editorial considered a report in a newspaper?" in Hubdub:
late to the party and there's no beer but... editorial are not "mainstream news sources" or generally to be considered as factual sources. News of course isn't a factual source either sometimes, but in order to run the boat we gotta agree on something. In fact, I think the racism exit polling question could have been settled with mainstream news sources, but nobody was interested and that interesting question was voided. It should have been allowed to run, and mainstream news sources should have been allowed to decide its outcome.
As usual, everyone decided to debate in comments what should have been decided by the media, which is the original mandate of the site. I don't give a shit what other people on Hubdub think about a question, I just want the media to decide it. My answers are predicated on what the media will report, not on what I think. If the world did what I wanted, then everyone would be wearing pyjamas or a bathrobe and drinking morning coffee at 1pm.
Stick to mainstream news sources, and all will be good. Start accommodating other sources, and your in a dark place with no phone, lighter, ciggies or fresh underwear.
Destry's reply to "Is a editorial considered a report in a newspaper?" was just promoted to the most useful! jimbo and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.
I can't even believe this got escalated. An editoral is not a news report. My paper will print editorials from anyone that can send one in, regardless how idiotic they may be. That doesn't mean they are reporting the news of the upcoming proposed event. Common sense would support that editorials are not news reporting.

I did the user survey recently, which much pretty revealed everything about me to admin concerning who I was. This is the first time ever I have done anything online like that in 12 years of internet usage. The reason I did it was because I felt that I should give something back to the people that created something I have enjoyed and has been a lot of fun to me. It was a fair swap, in a way.
This isn't a fair swap. This is a calculated first strategy, and there is a default strategy somewhere down the track - for example, offering a HD t-shirt might be a smart move to get people to cough up free face time.

jimbo replied on April 13, 2008 16:20 to the question "Any objections to me making predictions?" in Hubdub:
Nigel, I saw recently you put $H1000 on yes for "will Jesus return in 2009." I have no problem with you betting openly. Seriously ladies and germs, perhaps limiting the amount admin can bet eg $100 or $200 or something like that will ensure that (with most questions) dividends paid back are minimal. I understand that betting $100 on "Will George W Bush admit to IMing gay White House interns and using Barney the dog as bait for wild sex acts with them" YES at 0.5% may result in an unexpected windfall, but overall this kind of restriction would no doubt keep the admin down amongst the bottom feeders while allowing them to have the full and deep sensorial thrill of being a hubdub user.
jimbo replied on April 08, 2008 03:11 to the problem "Politics Market Settlement" in Hubdub:
well, I understand this may seem to be a good compromise outcome here, but already the percentage for "No" has risen from about around 70% i think to 80% in the time since this conversation. As a way to move forward I'm okay with it, but the fact remains that, through online news sources, we can verify that Bill has been neither sacked nor has he resigned over this issue and the matter is finished - so the question should be settled.
