topdog2009's reply to "Password-protected "party-mode"!" was just promoted to the most useful! jishi and 4 other people think it's one of the best replies.
Here's a few ideas I had for a "Party Mode" functionality. The main screen shows what song is "Now Playing" and what's "Up Next". Guests can place requests freely using the usual Spotify search function. When they select their song it is added to the queue as normal, but they also get an indication of how long it will be before the song plays (calculated by adding up the durations of the songs above it in the queue). The party host/s can set a password in order to get into "Host Mode", where they can edit the queue by adding or deleting songs and also moving them up and down the list. Although the playback/volume controls are shown on the pictures, anyone trying to use them to adjust the volume/pause/move to the next track would be prompted for a host password. I have many more ideas: let me know what you think!

I notice the same behaviour. I feel that it has been a bigger problem in the latest version than in previous versions.
It's especially reproducible if you stream using WiFi and then move out of range of the WiFi. It usually takes forever to be able to stream again over 3G, even though other services on the phone works fine (browser, email etc).

jishi replied on November 19, 2009 14:04 to the problem "Bug report/feature request collection for android" in Spotify:
Since the last update I experience some issues with streaming. I often find myself getting the message "Streaming is not supported under your current connection (2G)". However, I use the swedish provider 3 which doesn't even have any 2G-nets.
Most of the time, I have full reception, but I see that no traffic seem to be sent when spotify ends up in this state. When using other services on the phone (email, browser), data starts flowing, the "3G"-symbol switches to "H" (for hsdpa, turbo 3G) so I have a hard time believing that the connection is the problem.
At a certain spot between my home and the subway, this usually occurs, which it didn't do in earlier versions, so maybe it's just more sensitive on connection glitches?
2nd problem is that when the screen is locked/turned of, sometimes it wont change track until I unlock the phone, like if the application has been suspended by android or something.
This is on a HTC Hero, stock ROM 2.73.xxx
A comment on the idea "Spotify server for LAN" in Spotify:
If you want to block out p2p-distribution, just block all outgoing traffic other than what you need for your business. In order to stream music, it only needs port 443 open, which you want anyway because of https. p2p however never uses this afaik, I think it only uses ports between 10000-65535 dynamically. – jishi, on November 19, 2009 12:46

I strongly believe each user account has it's own encryption key, meaning two different accounts cannot read from the same cache. – jishi, on November 19, 2009 12:42

Yeah, there is no volume normalization it seems. It's very annoying. – jishi, on October 01, 2009 20:58
A comment on the question "Why is spotify hogging the CPU?" in Spotify:
I'm running Vista with SP2 at work without any problems with spotify. but try clearing your cache-directory and see if the problem goes away. The directory is specified in spotify settings. – jishi, on September 29, 2009 19:34

I have experienced the same thing. Thought it had to do with the overall sluggishenss of the phone before the update, but I guess that wasnt the case then. I stopped using BT-headphones for that reason. – jishi, on September 28, 2009 21:35

I suffer from this problem aswell. The freezing also occurs when logging in and it stays frozen a few minutes after the login was successful. Phone is then completely unresponsive, and I usually get the "application has stopped responding, force close?" But if I choose "wait" a couple of times, ot usually comes to life.
But when I have playlists that needs syncing, it's usually completely useless until the syncing is finished.-

Yeah, I'm aware of this. However, the phone was working normally when spotify wasn't launched, so I didn't relate to it at first. I'm looking forward to the update that should be released any week now which according to rumors will make the UI a lot more responsive. – jishi, on September 08, 2009 09:17

Yes, I've tried running it with the bare minimum of apps that it needs to run. I'll try reinstalling to see if that makes any difference. Are you using the stock SD-card or have you replaced your with a class 6 card? – jishi, on September 08, 2009 07:29
