Joel Franusic replied on April 09, 2008 20:39 to the question "Locked up and kicked out or Steal Lock Consequences" in PBwiki:
Summary:
Yes, "steal lock" kicks the other writer out of editing.
Details:
Whenever you are editing a page, you hold a "lock" on that page. If anybody else tries to edit that page while you are editing it, they will get a message saying that you have a lock on that page. They will be given the option to "steal" that lock from you. If that person decides to "steal" your lock, you'll be prevented from saving any changes that you are making.

The simplest answer is to use the same web browser on both systems. I highly recommend Firefox, which you can get here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Let me know if this solves your issue.

Facepalm indeed! I understand your frustration. What is going on here is that every web browser or Operating System (etc, etc) handles fonts themselves. The best that we can do is tell the browsers "hey, this font should be Verdana, or Arial, or New Times Roman".
That website that I linked to above is a list of the most common fonts that most web browsers support.
Anyway, here is a website that might help you get the fonts on your Ubuntu machine looking nice: http://ubuntu.wordpress.com/2005/09/0...
Yay Ubuntu!
Joel Franusic replied on March 24, 2008 19:38 to the question "I want a new Font" in PBwiki:
And while we are on this topic, maybe you can help ME out... do you know of any website where you can paste in IPA characters and have a robot voice pronounce the characters or words for you?
I'm totally new to IPA and I think that my linguistics friends are getting annoyed with all the stuff that I send them to pronounce for me.
Joel Franusic replied on March 24, 2008 19:35 to the question "I want a new Font" in PBwiki:
Beyond the finite set of fonts that modern web browsers support (http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/Wi...) we don't have any control over the fonts that our users see - which is why you'll see that many web pages with fancy fonts use images instead of text.
To use IPA in your wiki, you might want to try and use "Unicode" IPA characters. I've found what appears to be an exhaustive list here: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/wells/... let me know if this works for you!
Joel Franusic replied on March 24, 2008 19:24 to the problem "Verdana font is now serif?" in PBwiki:
Can you try a different computer and see if the fonts are rendered the same way on the other computer? Also, try and visit http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/Wi... and see if the Verdana font there also has serifs.

Joel Franusic replied on March 18, 2008 20:14 to the problem "Change "new" to "search" for Readers" in PBwiki:
Thomas, we just put out a feature in PBwiki 2.0 that addresses some of this.
When you type in a URL for a nonexistent page, we look for pages with names that closely match the the page that was typed in. For example if you are looking for a page named "TODO" and you typed in "to do" instead. You'll be directed at the proper page.
Thanks for your feedback!
