No sign of "Bill" from Dell. I agree THIS IS CRIMINAL! Dell knew of this problem yet refused to give me a new adapter. I've since wasted my money on a battery and a universal adapter because DELL WOULD NOT JUST TELL THE TRUTH. Now that I've read so many posts on so many different complaint boards about this issue with Dell I'm sure they'll be a class action law suit. It's not just a matter of wasted money, it frustration and the months of wasted time trying to find a fix.
STOP LYING DELL!

Dell should have made this public when they knew. I sent in my laptop when it was 7 months old and told them of the adapter error msg. Funny thing, Dell temporarily fixed my laptop but would not replace their bum adapter. Even thought I asked for a replacement due to the error message I was getting about the adapter not being recognized.
So they did a temporary fix, refused to provide a new adapter...Then 2 moths after the warranty is over I'm stuck with the same problem. I then paid for a whole new dell battery but that only helped for 2 months. When I call they keep pushing the extended warranty. I'm convinced that's why they didn't give me a new adapter when I requested one.....So that the problem would reoccur and they could squeeze more bux out of me. – John125, on March 24, 2009 04:27

I'm going through this too. So far I've bought a new adapter and 2 months ago a new battery. When under warranty I sent my laptop to dell and they temporarily fixed it. But it makes no sense why they didn't give me one of their non flawed shieled adapters while under warranty. I told them at the time the adapter was not being recognized.
This smacks of a scam because I told them I needed a new adapter when my laptop was sent in.-It was just 7 months old when this adaper and battery identification error started showing up.
This is ridiculious that so many were taken by Dell.-
