A comment on the question "Why don't dates and times show in the format selected in settings?" in PBwiki:
That would be very good news, Vu. This must sound odd to Americans, but very few countries do the mmddyy format (for obvious reasons) and it can be very confusing. And, to some degree, there is always the slight feeling that everyone is expected to follow the American way whatever their own cultural mores are. – Tadhg O'Shea, on July 13, 2008 12:03

I am an elemetary school librarian. I use wikis to share information about book lists, such as those with examples of figurative language, great opening papagraphs, good to teach inference, etc. I start the lists and then teachers can add to them or I add books as I find them.
I also have a wiki to publish podcasts of book reviews that students write and video.
I also set up a wiki for all the librarians in our district so we can share info, have a central location for lists, addresses, fixes for software problems, etc.
I also use wikis as sources of handouts, resource lists, and other information that participants need during workshops. Participants like being able to access the info at home after the workshop.

John,
The brackets will change the text into a new link if the page is edited using Classic mode (you can see which one you're using by clicking Edit on a page, and looking in the upper right-hand corner - if it says switch to Classic, you're using Point-and-click).
I'm not sure what the best solution would be for you. I know that if you right-click on a link in edit mode, however, it should give you two options - Edit Link or Remove Link. Remove Link will change it back to regular text, which will make the damage easier to repair.
Best of luck!

My wiki site is the HUB of my library! It's linked to the main website (or will be, once I revamp it this summer). It's where I collect all my resource links. ALL of my pathfinders are wikis; I have a separate administrator code, but also a student code so they can get it and add resources. It makes for some good discussions about good/bad sites, etc.

We have pages where we have been using square brackets, not realizing the brackets were supposed to create a new page. For a while the pages were fine: the brackets showed and didn't turn into links to new pages. Now some of them are changing; maybe only when someone edits a page. This is an annoying "feature". How do you use square brackets in a page without them turning into a link?

Awesome- I just graduated from the College of St. Catherine, which has ties to Dominican. I'm sure we've probably had some of the same professors. Good luck, and stay in touch if there is anything else I can do for you :) – Rachel Pennig, on May 23, 2008 00:16

Carrie - welcome to the discussion. What library school are you going to?
I used a wiki in the last library I worked at. I used it to keep track of my frequently ordered supplies, my policies and procedures for item checkouts, my stats, even for tracking my renegade patrons.
Be sure to check out our library examples on this page: https://educators.pbwiki.com/Example+...
and check out our librarian webinars here: www.pbwiki.com/content/webinars.
Stay in touch!

Hi, Corinne. I've just started a similar project. My library is expanding and digitizing our manual for library clerks. How is your project coming along? I can be reached at rmalino2 [at] uiuc [dot] edu – Residence Hall Libraries, on May 13, 2008 19:09
A comment on the question "Why can't I open a PDF in the browser window?" in PBwiki:
Hey John, we're working on it. In the meantime, when the file downloads you can rename the file to remove the .ps and it'll open just fine. – Rachel Pennig, on May 11, 2008 16:34
John started following the question "Why can't I open a PDF in the browser window?" in PBwiki.
A comment on the question "Why can't I open a PDF in the browser window?" in PBwiki:
We have this problem where users try to open a PDF we've uploaded to the wiki and it causes a dialog box to open that says it's a PostScript file and offers Acrobat Distiller as the default file to open it. Using that just results in an error message. It's possible to browse through the dialog box to find the exe for Acrobat Reader, but a lot of users wouldn't know how to do that. The OS and FF obviously know which program to use to view PDFs because the exact same file opens fine from the hard drive or when posted to another Web site. So it must be something with PBwiki. Please get it fixed! – John, on May 11, 2008 14:23

Sinful Seven Layer Bars Melt 1 stick of margarine in a 9x12 pan, stir in 1 tsp. vanilla. Mix 1 Tbsp. flour into 1 1/2 c. Graham Cracker crumbs, sprinkle evenly over the melted mixture and pat into a crust. Layer on a cup of each of the following: flaked coconut, butterscotch chips, and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Pour a can of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk over all (it;s the 'glue'). Sprinkle one cup of chopped pecans over all. Bake at 325 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes until the top is pale golden brown. Cool thoroughly, cut into small squares, store or gorge. Not on a wiki yet, but I'm learning! - Anita, a librarian in training. – Anita, on April 29, 2008 23:03

I have opened this edu wiki up, internationally, to share good books and good reading ideas with everyone. Your thoughts are valued. Feel free to add a book review, too.

Guy Fawkes replied on March 24, 2008 16:46 to the question "how do I put link buttons on my home page for links to my other pages?" in PBwiki:
Please note that PBwiki 2.0 has virtually eliminated the old buttons as used by PBwiki 1.0. We're working on getting the Widget Library to run under PBwiki 2.0, and we're trying to determine what new features, like addButtons, are needed by the users. If you have any interest in using the Widget Library under PBwiki 2.0, please join us on our blog and help us make Widget 2.0 a success!

Hi,
I'll be the first to admit that we don't have much by way of localization options, but we are looking into fleshing those out in the future. We value your comments, so as users increasingly need these features, I'm sure they will make their way into the product.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help,

OK, I just checked this one mine and that is defintely the case. I asked our head engineer right now, and he says it's something they're fixing right now, and (I hope) will be done soon. I asked him to comment here when it is fixed, so keep an eye out for that.
Thank you for finding this and mentioning it. Definitely a big deal :P
