Nope. I asked about this almost two years ago, and you can see from the linked post that there was no response. I have asked about this many, many times since then, and it's one of the questions that they have steadfastly refused to comment on. The one thing they have done, is to add the "contact the owner of this wiki" link, so that you can use a form to contact the owner of an abandoned wiki, to see if they will let you have it. However, if that email bounces (meaning the original owner cannot be contacted), then they will not notify you.

I have been successful in getting the owner of one abandoned wiki to respond, and let me use their wiki, but it's only happened once.

They also, a while back, started "retiring" wiki names; if a wiki with a good name gets deleted, that name is "retired" forever. So make sure you make it clear to the owner of the abandoned wiki (when you contact them using the form) that they cannot just delete the wiki, and free up the name (that's how we did it, back in the old days). They might not be aware of the policy, since it was probably not in effect back when they created the now-abandoned wiki.
