Johnny asked a question in Wuala on September 01, 2009 18:53:
Is there a way to check the progress when uploading many files? Is there any way to check the progress on very large uploads? I am backing up a folder that has about 60 GB of data in about 40,000 files. If I go to show uploads then it only shows info about the 100 or so files that are in the upload queue. If I right click on the folder in Wuala and check the properties it significantly underestimates what has been done so far, indicating something like "> 300 items (157 MB)". The best info I can get is by clicking the "Check" button. That shows me that ~6,000 files are available and there are ~4000 not available (I assume these on in my local cache waiting to be uploaded). I knew it would take a while to upload this data. With my upload speed I estimated roughly 10 or 15 GB per day. But I noticed that the upload bandwidth isn't being fully utilized. I assume this is because of encryption, etc. So I have no idea if this is going to take a week or months.

I have never actually packaged anything myself. And have only manually installed or compiled stuff on my own a handful of times. I am only aware of the system in place at Ubuntu as an end user. Most of the 3rd party apps and proprietary code like the Nvidia binary drivers are in the Ubuntu Universe or Multiverse repositories. Unfortunately I am not sure what the process is to get a package into those official repositories.
Also many projects will use a PPA (personal package archive) at launchpad.net. They host the app and set up an Ubuntu repository for you. This is what XBMC and many other popular independent projects that want to provide Ubuntu support do. Again I have never set up a PPA but as I understand it is pretty easy and straightforward. Here is the overview at launchpad.net: https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA. Hope that helps anybody who is in a position to implement this.

Great tech support, fixed and updated in 1 day!I am very impressed with the quick turn around in addressing a problem I had. Wuala was crashing with memory errors and I was ready give up, thinking it was too bug to rely on, and believing it would be months before another release that may address the bug.
However after posting in the forums I was quickly approached by an employee. I posted some debug info. And in less than a day they tracked down the memory leak and fixed it. Then next day I was using Wuala and it was perfectly stable. I am totally impressed.

My client updated to the Wuala Beta PC 236 build today. I have uploaded several GB over a period of several hours without incidence. I just wanted to confirm that the memory leak appears to be fixed on my end. Thanks for the quick response. I am thoroughly impressed. – Johnny, on August 28, 2009 20:51

Thanks for the security tip. I cleared those files out. I am glad to hear that the leak got tracked down. Will Wuala update automatically? If so how will I know that I am updated to the fixed build? I want to make sure it is fixed before I attempt to back up that folder again. – Johnny, on August 27, 2009 21:05

I put a description with the error message and two .hprof files in this folder in the /Wuala Community/Bugs/Incoming folder:

It was quite the ordeal to stop the backup folder from uploading, so that I could get these debug files uploaded. I ended up having to delete my whole backup folder, and then delete it from the trash before I could get it to stop uploading. I looked into it and it seems that is a separate issue though.

I have an .hprof file but I am not sure how to get it to you. Here is the output message when it crashes:

I will load it up with the debugging launcher you provided. Where do I send the .hprof file to? My user name is not Johnny. It is jruss. I have told it to send the report on multiple occasions. – Johnny, on August 26, 2009 15:11

It crashes continuously. I can't get it to run for more than a few minutes. When crashes it gives the java heap error, and it seems to be related to the output buffer. This problem started as soon as I added my photos folder as a backup folder. – Johnny, on August 26, 2009 14:37

I have clicked send when it prompts me after it crashes. Is this the report that you are referring to, or is there some other way to provide more information. – Johnny, on August 26, 2009 12:48

You don't have to get it into the Debian repository. At a minimum you could host your own apt repository. Also Ubuntu has a 'restricted' and 'multiverse' repositories for precisely this reason. Stuff goes into those repositories if it isn't open source or doesn't has other license issues. I agree that this would make Wuala adoption much more enticing.
